The Jabuticaba is a fruit-bearing tree native to Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. The fruit is purplish black, with a white pulp; it can be eaten raw or be used to make jellies and drinks (plain juice or wine).
the branches are great for making slingshots

not really, but it is delicious. only problem is it may take some 17 years from a planted seed to fruit-bearing tree...
found this: "The gelatinous whitish pulp contains from one to four small seeds and has a pleasant, subacid flavor markedly similar to certain muscadine grape"

not sure, 17 is what some old guy told me. I had one in my backyard that took 12 years to give fruit. it was already planted when I got there, so I don't know its actual age

17 years is a long time to wait for fruit bearing. But some blueberry bushes (the highboy varieties especially) sometimes never bear fruit and for no apparent reason.
Funny that it's similar to muscadines/scuppernongs because that is to me what they look like.
