Is Bose Worth it?
Hey gang, could use your thoughts on this one. I am wanting a nice looking docking station for my ipod to put in the living room so we can have some tunes going. I really like the look of the bose but I hate the price.
This is the Sounddock II series. Which is pretty sharp. I am wondering what your thoughts are on Bose and if there is anything that you might of found that is not as expensive as a Bose stereo and still puts out great sound quality.
Peace out Bitches!
What are you using? If anything!

Back in the day I think they used to be but not so much anymore. I have some desktop computer speakers that are Bose that were worth it (they sound unbelievable for the size, like room filling sounds...) but my 7.1 theater system isn't Bose and it's fucking amazing too.

These guys know their shit. This is my very expensive hobby, and BOSE is snake oil, as is Monster Cables. For much less money, you can get a Klipsh iPod player with infinitely better sound and less self-righteous arrogance.
Everybody says Bose is not worth the money, unless you have the money. I have Bose computer speakers and like Striker said, they kick some serious ass. I am amazed at how loud, clear and beautiful they sound. I also have the ear buds and the noise canceling headphones. It's like sticking your ear between two of the nicest boobs you can think of, and they work great. With that being said, Godfather who I understand really knows his sound systems thinks Sony's are just as good for less money. I live by the rule, you get what you pay for. I know Bose equipment lasts forever. Anything I have ever owned that was Sony hasn't lasted much more than a couple of years. That's my 2 cents. I love my Bose stuff

While I own two Bose products, I'm actually not a fan of them. Mostly, because they think they're above everyone such that they don't release performance specs for their products.
Only reason I own what I do is because I used to work for Borden Foods (mile, ice cream, snacks, cheese, etc.) and they were part of the larger Borden Corp which also included Borden Chemical. BC made all the plastics and housings used by Bose. I was able to buy new Acoustimass 5 sets for $100us each. That was back in 1993 when they went for over a grand. Plus I have a set of Video Roommates from the Bose display in 1990 when I worked at Micro Center.
While I'm not a fan, their products can take a beating and still survive. I've had mine cranked to where I thought they'd fry, but they didn't.
When I went for surround, I bought some inexpensive cube speakers and they sound just as good to me. But they don't get cranked way up and I'm not the best at nit-picking audio systems.

That's pretty hyperbolic, but it does serve to illustrate that what sounds good is all subjective. He likes BOSE, and you have to respect that. I still think they sound like tinny plastic boxes with a telephone speaker inside.
