Alright, so ive been using a laptop upstairs with perfect internet connection for a year while my modem and wireless router is downstairs. My brother recently bought a laptop and here is where the the problems come in. His room is on opposite side of the house downstairs. Since he's gotten his laptop my wireless connection does not work while we are both at seperate ends of the house but his does (he is downstairs a room over from the router). But if he brings his computer upstairs near my laptop both of are connections work at the same time with no problems. What would cause this? What is weird is when it wont connect it still shows full bars for how strong the connection is but cannot connect to the network. Im pretty sure its the router not being strong enough but i dont get why it still would show full bars but not connect. Any suggestions?

Not nessicarily. I just noticeds that my new laptop flys and my old one would respond well once in a while even though I had a great connection and the bars and shit. Turns out I wasn't sending and receiving packets well and that killed my connection.

Ok, but his issue only started when his brother got a new laptop and only doesn't work when said laptop isn't right next to his. So unless his laptop is in love with his brothers and refuses to work unless it's next to him; it sounds more like a router issue.
You could say that maybe the packets being sent by his brothers is fucking up his, but then, why would it work when they are next to each other, and thus the signal coming from his brothers would be strongest?

His brothers signal is blocking his but when he's right next to his computer he's almost piggybacking and slips it in behind him therefore less distortion and can send/receive easier like the Earths Mangetic Field (Just go with me on this) at the poles where the field is at it's weakest.
You may attempt to set device specifics for each computer through the router. Sounds like one connection is overlapping the other, like Pred mentioned. Is he running a packet sniffer by chance? That happened to me before.
