In the years after God handed down the commandments to Moses there are a number of times He instructs Isreal to go to war, so I don't think that "kill" meant the same thing that it does now. "Kill" then was probably what "murder" is now.

I've done lots of research on what the "original" Ten Commandments were. They are quite different than what is usually accepted nowadays. There are linguistic nuances not translated by Western copiers.

The "thou shalt not kill" is not the whole thing. It's more complex and actually includes "without just cause".

Now, what is meant by "just cause" is open to interpretation as your "just cause" might be different from mine or someone else's.

Have some fun and research the true meaning of "Turn the other cheek". It's not what you think.
