Wow that is some god awful garish rubbish. And good way to date it for future generations who will have to pay yet more tax money to repaint it something that doesn't make you want to stab yourself in the eyes after seeing it.

The whole seating area is scaffolding. Most of the park venues are temporary structures. Even the stadium itself was designed as a kit. Once the Paras are finished, the whole top section of seating is coming off and the rest of the seats are moving 10 feet closer to the pitch. The park was built in a shitty area of London (Hackney), the investment completely invigorating the area, plunging millions into the redevelopment of the whole area, but once everything's over, there's no need for all the shit that's there. the basketball arena is going to the US, and the velodrome, I think, is going to Glasgow.

The Village, that's currently housing the Athletes and Paralympic athletes, will have a year of being retro-fitted with kitchens (the athletes eat in the food hall just outside the village), and will provide several thousand new homes. This was all agreed in the original pitch to the IOC. Inspiring a generation - to live in a poky flat and squeeze out kids

Hosting the Olympics must be like being a chick going to the bar and waking up some time later to realize you were roofied, and fucked, wondering if you had a good time, but hoping you never do something that stupid again.

Edit: I'm not picking on London I mean anywhere that's hosted the Olympics.

No, I know what you mean, and leading up to the event itself, everyone was against it. The media in particular. Ripping on the construction workers 5 years before it was supposed to be finished. The biggest concerns were the financial outlay, the disruption to the infrastructure, and the possibility that all the attention would lead to a terrorist attack.

Then the games started, and we discovered that holy crap, we were bloody good at it, both hosting and participating. (If you look at country population divided by medals won, we actually come out on top, but that's neither here nor there). The transportation system hardly wobbled, the security of the place was incredible (500 arrests in the entire time it was open), and while the event came in under budget, it looks like we're going to make a profit on the £9.6billion cost.

That's not including the paralympics, that start in a couple of weeks
