thanks for the input everyone.

some of this advanced talk made my brain tired.

i've decided to hire a guy who plays the kazoo and has cymbals between his knees to just stand in the corner and take requests. he can play a mean "swanee river".

my crappy Bose speakers sound awesome. They sound warm and robust enough to me.

If you're shopping for a system like, make sure that the stereo is actually going to pull the audio off the HDMI cable and not just pass it trhoguh to an HDMI out to your TV. Mine is just a passthrough (I knew that going into it) so the only purpose it serves is as an HDMI switch if my TV only had one input and I had like 2 devices I wanted to use HDMI on. To make up for the passthrough, it has digital inputs that you can assign to an HDMI input so that it will pull the digital audio off that input anytime you switch to whatever HDMI input you assign it too.

lol @ cymbals on the knees, banging out swanee river. reminds me of dick van dyke @ the beginning of mary poppins.

I have nothing to add but one snarky, anti-bose comment.....those wave radio thingies are like $500, right? Why do they still look like they're cast from a mold from 1952?

I remember seeing the ads in the PARADE insert in the sunday newspaper as a kid and thinking that my grandma would never pay that much for an alarm clock.

It's like the 1991 jeep grand wagoneer, it seriously looks 40 years older than it is...and not in a good, retro kinda way.
