I used to do this CONSTANTLY with CD's, but now in the age of the ipod I rarely do it anymore. I use the shuffle all songs deal and inevitably some song comes up that reminds me of my love for a band so I listen to them, then repeat the process. I guess its the large library that keeps me from tiring of a certain song/band anymore.

Mine would have to be The Cure and Sisters of Mercy.I have loved them both for MANY years, but occasionally lose touch with them.

I'll go through an Elvis Costello phase every now and again. Same with Nirvana. And then, maybe once a year or so, I'll have myself and Uncle Tupelo-athon

Two bands in particular have had this effect on me...Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel. As a teen in the late 70's/early 80's, The Wall influenced me tremendously as well as SO, to a point where they were the only 2 tapes ever in my Walkman. Now I'll hear an old song come on the radio and have to go back and have a listen. What impresses me the most is the influence these artists have on a number of current artists that I listen to today.

Right now I'm obsessed with Lucinda Williams' earlier stuff. Also on a Replacements kick.

I go through this with Afghan Whigs every few months.
