There's nothing more exhilarating than pointing out the shortcomings of others, is there?

I agree with this 100%. I hate when people put out a random tip jar. There is a BBQ place that you walk up to the counter, order your food, then take it back to the table. The drinks are self serve. What are they doing that deserves a tip? There is a pizza place that I got that is the same way.
Anyway, back to topic. I think I tip pretty well. I generally try to stay in the 20-30% range, but sometimes get into the 40-50% range on small tabs because I feel bad tipping less than 5 bucks. Most meals last about an hour, so I feel like I'm getting a decent deal to have some wait on me for an hour for 5 bucks.
I tip very well. I made it through college by delivering pizza. 6 years of delivering pizza and I worked my ass off for those tips. I was able to graduate with an engineering degree with no student loans. I appreciated every tip I got and remembered those A-holes who didn't tip me. I never did anything to their food but I always delivered it last. I usually tip between 20 to 30 percent but I have been known to go higher than that for great service.
I'll tip the standard 15-20%, more if I'm a regular. But really pisses me off is when a waiter fucks something early in the meal and then proceeds to blow you off the rest of the way. I guess they figure they blew the tip so they're not going to bother. Everyone can screw up, it all depends on how you respond to when it happens. If a server makes it right and then gives good service, their tip won't suffer, but if they blow me off after screwing up, not only will they get a shitty tip, but I'll never eat there again.
Thank god for us bitter sacks of emotionless fucks. We are legendz!

I tip 15-25% depending on service. Minimum 5 bucks if its not a lot. Hot waitresses get more. If you suck as a server all you are getting is whatever pocket change I have. HA!
tipping is one thing i can never figure out when i travel, we dont have tipping here in nz so it just seems really strange to me!
i guess our minimum wage reflects that though, its currently sitting at $12 - is minimum wage in the US a lot lower?
i usually tip 20 percent, unless the bill is like only 7-8 dollars...i dont feel bad leaving a tip of less than 5 dollars no matter what, especially when all you've done is bring me a burger and a drink, and never stop by after that until ive asked you for the check. its funny, ive worked as a cashier in a marriott before, at starbux, and have both parents working in the hospitality business,(my dad worked in food and bev his entire life), so ive been brought up knowing to tip accordingly, but its their JOB to be courteous, accomodating, and essentially, not suck. if you cant do that, dont be a waiter working for minimum minimum wage. its not my fault you're having a bad day, but waiters, like many other occupations, need to have good customer service skills. if you can't do that, work somewhere u dont have to deal with people.
