Ripping movies for this forum question
So I am trying to rip my Russ Meyer DVDs for posting to this forum. I see most of the movies being posted are around 700 mbs. So I dl'ed Convert x and Magic DVD ripper from the apps forum. First Magic DVD took 2 hours and the resulting video was terrible. Not even watchable. SO I tried the convert x prog and it was a little better, but still sucks.
So my questions: How small should I shrink a 4 gig DVD? AVI, MPEG, DIVX? VCD or SVCD or just a plain file with no menus? Any other advice? Thanks!

Most people, myself included rip to avi, it seems to be the most universal, and it interlaces audio and video for a smaller file...

I use a Mac, and rip using handbrake, it allows me to rip straight to avi, and to specify how large a file I want to have...

I'm having the same problem. Even with a large file size (1.4 GB) the picture is horrible. Was using DVD Fab 5. Gonna try Clone DVD tonight.

If you have CloneDVD Mobile, for PC, I have that and have used it before... It works pretty well.

I been over in the Apps thread and dled just about everything I could find. Either I don't know what I am doing (ding, ding, ding) or that stuff doesn't really work well for DVD to AVI transfer. Tried WinAvi, Fab5, MagicDVD ....and just tried handbrake too. I believe it is a conspiracy by all of these software folks against me.
