I had to send my laptop for some repairs (motherboard replacement), and I decided to format it back to factory settings. Before I did that, I copied all the home-made porn onto dvds. Now, I'm having some problem accessing the files on the DVD.
To be more precise, there's a specific folder (which contains goodies), everytime I double click on that folder it takes ages to open, and when it does finally open and I see the files I can't open the files. I'm getting some gay ass corrupt data error when I open those files.
I hate to say I think you're SOL. Yes there are some utils which say they fix bad data on optical disks, but I've found they rarely work.
This is a common problem with burning disks. One that most people are aware of. One that all these software and burner drive companies won't acknowledge.
I can only suggest that in the future even when the software makes you think the burn was successful, eject the disk, put it back in and copy all the files back to your HDD and open them. That's the only way to make sure.
I have a computer/virus-y question.
I must have downloaded some porn that put some spyware on my computer, and since my norton and kaspersky are out of date, i don't know what to do.
I've googled the error message and downloaded SmitFix and SpyBot...both have said they found problems and fixed them, but my main problem is still around.
First off, my desktop background changed from what it was to: "Warning!Spyware detected on your computer! Install an antivurs or spyware remover to clean your computer."
Also, every ten minutes or so, a faux Windows-looking message comes up saying something like this:
Malware Alert
Warning!
Trojan Adware.W32.ExpDwnldr spyware detected. This trojan alllows attackers to access your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internetbanking and personal data. This also prompts advertising popups.
This process is a secruity risk and should be removed from your system.
Type: Trojan Horse
System Affected: Windows 98, 2000, NT, ME, XP
Security Risk(0-5): 4
Recomendations: Click Yes to get all available antispyware software.
I have seen this alot as a network admin. I used to try to remove it myself, but the biggest problem with this is the virus knocks the windows installer out, and doesnt let you install any other AV. You have to try to get an up to date AV on there (not Norton) if you want to salvage everything on the computer. I use SOPHOS and it does clean this up no problem. The good thing about SOPHOS is it disables the virus and then removes it. The way I resolve this now is I just reimage the computers. I know this doesnt help you, but you may have to reformat and install windows again.
If you can get Norton off of the computer, and are able to install other softwares let me know and I can hook you up with something to help.
