I love Gabriel Garcia Marquez. He has such a different style of writing that I originally couldn't get into it but once I got through the first chapter of Love in the Time of Cholera I was hooked. Also love A Hundred Years of Solitude. Great books. Lord of the Flies is also a thumbs up book.

20th Century Ghost by Joe Hill is an amazing collection of short stories. Stephen King is stepping his game up recently. I guess he has to now that his son is releasing some really good fiction. Seriously... Nobody has suggested Salinger yet? Nine Stories, another bunch of shorts, is glorious. Catcher in the Rye is a classic for a reason.

It may sound strange but The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Quite possibly the most badass romance novel ever written.
