Default Thoughts on a new ride...

So I am thinking about getting another car. This would entail me saving some money for both a down payment and extra insurance. I have been thinking about a VW jetta

a Subaru Impreza or Legacy

Or a BMW 135 coupe

Does anyone have any thoughts or comments?

From what I am hearing talking to subaru owners they have not had any luck with engines so they are my fall back right now. Money would be a stretch for the BMW so the Jetta is at the top of the list right now.

if what you currently drives still runs I say run that bitch til the wheels fall off. Cars are a terrible waste of money, new ones especially.

I respectfully, disagree with all of the above... Of course, I may be biased... I run an Acura Dealership...

all of your choices have their fall backs. Getting work done to any of them will cost you an arm and a leg. BMW is notorious for having shitty service. If I had to choose I'd probably go with VW but even then thats the lesser of the evils. Do Mechanic work for a living.

BMW's are nice but a bitch to repair as said above. You can't go wrong with a VW jettas are awesome cars. Also if there is a problem parts are not to terribly expensive.

So unless things have changed in the recent years the new style of Jetta's got terrible reviews for maintenance to cost ratio in an article that came out about 2-3 weeks ago from either consumer reports or edmunds(can't remember).

And I was looking into a subaru myself and was told by a subaru mechanic that at around 75k the heads have a tendency to go which is no biggie if you don't keep cars that long or have low commute times.

If you can afford a Beemer then you don't really have to worry about any of the above
I tend to agree with DAS,I love Acura's. The TL is a car of beauty.

just my 2cp

For whats its worth. I had a vw jetta oil changes ran about 45 -50 dollars doing it my self. You are required to use sythetic. They will test your oil if you have any warranty work done on the motor before they touch it.

The Jetta I had required you to remove the lower half of the bumper to get to the filter.
