Your Collection is...
Something RandalG said in another thread got me thinking.
If you consider yourself to have a music collection (self-defined); do you have and when did you switch:
78s I thought so but don't know where they are
45s 100 or so
LPs 200 +/-
Cassettes 2000+/- switched to mostly cassette in 1978 but still bought a few LPs up til even 1987. unfortunately almost all my tapes were stolen in 1986
8-tracks 0 had some but all gone
Reel to Reel 0 had a player, sold it
CD 10,000+ switched in 1986
Mini disc, DAT, DigiCart or other early digital storage 10 actually have a few around, never bought players though.
DVD 0 only ones I have are concert dvds never have purchased a strictly audio one
Digital 600GB but I only have a few hundred albums that are hard drive only.
Until I found RDCs David Bowie collection on here a few months ago I hadn't ever downloaded an album that I didn't already own (but was in storage). Now I'm looking for stuff I know I'd never buy (like the entire Bowie catalog) or stuff that will never be in print again. I will grab a new album when it comes out but make a note to go buy it.

not even close, i don't have like any rap, hip-hop, electronica/techno/dance, trying to find a lot of old country. . . i have a lot of rock and alternative- mainly alternative. I used to work as one of three managers at a Sam Goody before they went bankrupt, and before that I planned on getting a degree in radio broadcasting but the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry, so i was just collecting all this music. . . . i'm a music whore.
40,000+ mp3's, and thats mainly rock, pop and jazz. I listen to maybe 7000 of them. I like to have it around, in case someone wants something or I get a request for a song I should do live.
I have about 250 CD's and maybe 30 LP's, mostly rarities or collectors items, but no player.
I have 2 80 GB hard drives full (Just data drive, not even an OS on them) and I have 25 4.7 DVD's full. And that is just the music stuff. Not including porn.
Although, this kind of brings up an intersting question;
Is there a software program that will search your hard drives for music files and kind of put them in a list. I home wrote a little HTP one, launch the web page and it will scan make things clickable to play, but then it would load the whole directory when I just wanted to do the one song.
