Ala. Special Ed Teacher Allegedly Sexually Abused Student, Husband Files for Divorce 2 Days Later

A former special education teacher in Alabama is accused of sending nude photos to students and having sex with one of them.

On Friday, 22-year-old Lyndsey Sherrod Bates was indicted on a felony charge of engaging in a sex act with a student younger than 19 and misdemeanor counts of distributing obscene material to a student and having sexual contact with a student, WAFF, WHNT and AL.com report.

On March 29, Bates resigned from Madison County High School, writing in her resignation letter that she wished to work in a “different area of education,” AL.com reports. That same day, she and her husband of less than a year separated.

Five weeks later, Bates was arrested for allegedly sending nude photographs of herself to two students and having sex with one of them. According to officials, Bates allegedly had sex with the 17-year-old male student in February and allegedly sent the photos to the second student in March. The students were not part of special education classes.

Bates’s then-husband filed for divorce two days after her arrest citing “incompatibility,” court records obtained by AL.com state. The uncontested divorce was finalized in July.

“She’s looking forward to clearing this up and having her day in court,” Bate’s attorney, Robert Tuten, told AL.com.

The age of consent in Alabama is 16, but the state’s teacher-student sex laws says “consent is not a defense.” If convicted, Bates faces up to 20 years in prison. Tuten could not be reached for comment Friday.

'A sad day': Veteran Livingston deputy and his school teacher wife face child porn accusations

A longtime Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputy, along with his wife, a junior high school teacher in Walker, stood accused Wednesday of producing pornography involving a preteen child. The pair are also accused of first-degree rape, and he faces obscenity and video voyeurism counts, too.

“It’s a sad day for all of us … when you arrest one of your own,” Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said. The Livingston Parish School District said the teacher resigned and that the school system would cooperate with investigators.
According to the attorney general’s office, the investigation began with a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about the possible possession and distribution of child pornography. The number of alleged victims wasn’t immediately known, nor was it clear whether Livingston Parish children were among them.

Following an investigation by the attorney general’s office, the sheriff’s office, Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, Dennis Perkins, 44, was arrested Tuesday night in Sabine Parish, where he had traveled for a fishing trip.

Perkins was transferred Wednesday afternoon to Livingston Parish Detention Center and his bond was set at $1,675,000. The attorney general’s office said Perkins would face five dozen counts alleging the production of pornography involving a juvenile under age 13, two counts of first-degree rape, three counts of possession of pornography involving a juvenile under age 13, two counts of video voyeurism and two counts of obscenity.

Cynthia Thompson Perkins, 34, was arrested Wednesday morning on 60 counts of production of pornography involving a juvenile under age 13 and two counts of first-degree rape. She was being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

Cynthia Perkins quit her job Wednesday, schools spokeswoman Delia Taylor said. Taylor did not know how long Perkins had worked for the district.

Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lori Steele said Ard fired Dennis Perkins on Wednesday after learning of the arrest. Dennis Perkins had been with the department since 2002 and, as a lieutenant, had led its SWAT team.

“This was a veteran law enforcement officer, one who had dedicated a lot of time and effort into this community,” Ard said. “This type of alleged behavior will not be tolerated by me or anyone at the LPSO. …

“I have always considered Denny a friend and a family member,” Ard said.

Cynthia Perkins was a teacher at Westside Junior High School in Walker. Taylor said there had been no indication from the attorney general's office that any of the allegations involved a Livingston Parish school, but deferred to authorities for further information.

In its statement, the school district said only that a teacher had resigned but Taylor confirmed in an interview that its statement was about Cynthia Perkins.

"An employee of Livingston Parish Public Schools has resigned today as the result of an ongoing investigation by law enforcement,” the statement said.
“Livingston Parish Public School officials became aware of the investigation early this morning and met with the employee, at which time the resignation was rendered and accepted.

“Livingston Parish Public Schools is committed to the safety and security of all students and employees and is committed to working with the proper authorities as needed through the course of this investigation,” the district said.
Westside Junior High was closed Wednesday for previously scheduled teacher-parent conferences.

“Protecting Louisiana children is one of my top priorities,” Attorney General Jeff Landry said in a prepared statement. “So my office and I will continue to do all we can to find and arrest child predators.”

Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson Allison Hudson said Dennis Perkins was transferred to the Ascension Parish Jail on Wednesday evening for his own protection.

Former Parke County teacher charged with child seduction

A former Rosedale Elementary teacher is charged with child seduction stemming from an alleged lengthy sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male high school student.

Gina N. Richey, 35, of Terre Haute, was arrested on a Vigo County warrant charging two counts of Level 5 child seduction - a child care worker in sexual intercourse or other sexual conduct – according to a news release from Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse.

She was booked into Vigo County Jail at 3:29 p.m. today and released on $25,000 cash bond at 3:52 p.m., according to jail records. She is to appear in Vigo Superior Court 3 at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Richey's arrest stemmed from an investigation that began in Parke County in September. The alleged criminal conduct, however, was determined to have taken place in Vigo County, and Parke County authorities turned the investigation over to Vigo County authorities.

The charges allege Richey was having a sexual relationship with a student from Riverton Parke High School and that the relationship had been going on for some time, Sheriff Plasse said.

The Southwest Parke School Corp. had earlier announced a teacher had resigned and a teaching assistant had been terminated during the investigation. The assistant was terminated for reportedly failing to report knowledge of the intimate teacher-student relationship.

Parke County Sheriff Justin Cole has said his office received a report Sept. 30 from the Department of Child Services alleging an intimate relationship between a licensed teacher in the Southwest Parke district with a student from another school within the district.

The school corporation was notified the same day, conducted its own investigation and fully cooperated with the criminal investigation, Sheriff Cole said. The teacher resigned Oct. 3.

Cole, at the time, said the 35-year-old female teacher was alleged to have had a lengthy sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student.

'Teacher of the Year' at Texas High School Allegedly Sexually Abused Her Student

Texas high school teacher who was once celebrated as the school district’s “teacher of the year” has been arrested on accusations she sexually abused a student.

Randi Chaverria, 36, was a Family and Consumer Science teacher at Round Rock High School. According to an affidavit first obtained by KVUE-TV, she had sexual contact with a student several times during the 2019 fall semester. The student allegedly told police that she had performed oral sex on him twice in October.

Police reviewed text messages between Chaverria and the student, the affidavit states. Authorities allege that the text messages appear to back up the student’s accusations.

Chaverria has resigned from her position as a teacher.

She faces a charge of improper relationship between educator and student, jail records show.

In a letter to families, Round Rock High School principal Matt Groff said that the school district first learned about the possible inappropriate behavior on November 18.

“Once notified, the teacher, who had elected to take leave before administration received the report, was immediately reported to the District’s Human Resources Department and law enforcement and not permitted to return to campus,” Groff wrote, according to KXAN-TV.

Groff also wrote that the case has been reported to the State Board for Educator Certification.
Before the incident, Chaverria was a decorated educator. In May, she was awarded Secondary Teacher of the Year, according to the school district’s website. According to the release that announced her award, Chaverria also led the “Adopt-A-Child” community service project where high school students adopt elementary school students in need and buy them holiday gifts.

Above all, the school district vows to cooperate with authorities in the investigation. “Safety is the top priority of Round Rock High School and Round Rock ISD. Ensuring a safe and secure learning environment requires partnership between students, parents, campus and district staff, as well as law enforcement,” Groff wrote.

Chaverria turned herself in to Williamson County Jail on Tuesday morning and has been released after posting bond. She has not yet entered a plea, and court records do not reflect an attorney authorized to speak on her behalf.

Florida Special Education Teacher Arrested For Having Sex With Her Son’s 15-Year-Old Friend ‘Several Hundred Times’

Susan Weddle, age 40 and a former special education teacher, was arrested on Monday after having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy for more than a year.

Weddle and the teen allegedly began their relationship in Weddle’s Florida home after her son’s football game. The teen was a good friend of her son’s and was visiting to show support.

According to the arrest report, once they were drunk, the 15 year-old boy asked Weddle to have sex with him.

The 40 year-old woman agreed to have sex with the boy.

Their first encounter turned into “several hundred” encounters over the course of an illegal sexual relationship that would last more than a year.

Reportedly, the two then had sex in Weddle’s home, the teen’s home, Weddle’s car and at the beach. Also included in the report was the boy was a virgin prior to his time with Weddle and he became emotionally invested in the what he perceived as a relationship.

Though they tried to keep the illegal sexual relationship between them, there were multiple witnesses who saw them acting inappropriately together, some of whom eventually reported the information, so proper actions could be taken.

One witness came across revealing text messages between the boy and Weddle. They then shared the information with the high school counselor, who forwarded their concerns to the Department of Children and Families.

Another witness, who had been on Weddle’s property after being hired to power-wash her house, went straight to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office to report he had seen the two kissing.

This particular witness also said the teen had shown the witness nude photos of Weddle the boy had on his phone.

It was also gathered Weddle gifted the boy a new iPhone, a bracelet and necklace and other items over the course of their sexual relationship.

The boy is a minor. A 40 year-old engaging in sex with a minor aged 15 or younger like the boy in this case is punishable in the state of Florida.
Weddle was arrested by the Escambia County Police Department, but it is unclear at this time what charges she will receive.

It’s also unclear if additional evidence will need to be procured, or if the sentence will be based on the information already gathered about their illegal sexual relationship.

In response to her arrest, Weddle resigned from her position of 11 months at the J.E. Hall Center, where she worked as a learning resource specialist and helped to train other teachers.

Prior to her position at J.E. Hall Center, she taught at the elementary school, L.D. McArthur.

Florida Teacher’s Aide Arrested After Security Camera Catches Her Having Sex With Two Students In Community Pool

A Florida teacher’s assistant was arrested for engaging in sexual intercourse with two minors and providing them with marijuana and alcohol.

According to Fox 4, Kirstie None Rosa, 27, was charged with three counts of lewd and lascivious battery sexual activity with a 15-year-old and for providing nicotine and alcohol to the minors.

Surveillance footage also revealed Rosa being intimate with two 15-year-olds at her condo’s community pool, although it was not made clear if the video showed all three engaging in sexual activity together or on separate occasions.

Collier County deputies reported she had sex with one of the minors a couple of times, once at his home and a second time after driving him to her East Naples residence.

She allegedly took the teens to her condo after going to a party where they were imbibing alcohol and smoking pot. When pressed for details about the pool footage, she denied going into the pool and “hanging out with the students.”

She also claimed to leave the party after the teens arrived.

But the Naples Daily News reported that the person having the party kicked them out upon discovering they were high school students. Rosa denied going back home, but two witnesses allegedly saw her in her home with the 15-year-old.

Shannon Van Antwerp, a mother of a former student at the Phoenix Alternative School, told NBC 2 that Rosa should no longer work there or at any other school if the allegations are true.

“These students are in there for a reason and for a teacher to do that I just think it’s really horrible.”

Kevin Buja, who lives near the school, also expressed his shock after hearing about the allegations.

“It makes me angry and wary about what’s going on over there.”

The two boys were interviewed separately at the Children’s Advocacy Center on November 19.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, both admitted to corresponding with Rosa via Snapchat and having sex with her.

On December 9, Collier County School District school officials recommended terminating Rosa to the school board.

Assistant principal accused of raping 16-year-old avoids jail

An assistant principal charged with raping a 16-year-old student in Missouri has avoided jail time by accepting an Alford plea, allowing her to assert innocence while acknowledging the evidence proves her guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

Elizabeth Giesler, who served as the assistant principal of Ste. Genievieve Middle school in eastern Missouri prior to the indictment, accepted the Alford plea earlier this week, according to court records.

City Star reported.

The unidentified student told police about three sexual encounters he had with Giesler, including one reported instance at the assistant principal’s home when she performed oral sex on the child.

His father told local news channel KTV1 that Gielser acted as a mentor in the boy’s life.

“She talked to us about my son and stuff like this,” he said, “what she can do for him through life, you know, give him a better life.”

He added: “She was going to try to make sure he got on the right path.”

The middle school where Giesler was employed also told the news channel that she had been placed on leave pending the results of the investigation.

Ste. Genevieve County prosecuting attorney Wayne Williams defended the Alford plea in a statement to the Daily Journal, saying he considered her lack of a criminal record and how she would no longer be able to work in schools after surrendering her teacher’s license.

“Some people might not understand the bargain that was struck in this case unless they really understand what she had to give up voluntarily to get that bargain,” Mr Williams said.

He added: “That was basically her livelihood, and she had to surrender that.”

‘God doesn’t always know what I want!’

An anatomy teacher at a private Christian school in Texas has been accused of having a months-long sexual relationship with an 18-year-old female student.

The relationship between Lacey Jo Cunningham, 32, and the teen girl at Woodlands Christian Academy began after the two started texting last August, according to The Houston Chronicle.

From there, the two met one day outside of school over coffee, went to church then spent the night together at Cunningham’s apartment, the report said, citing court documents.

The pair engaged in more than 20 sexual encounters, the documents allege, before the student told her mom, who then called cops.

Detectives showed up to Cunningham’s home on Dec. 14. The teacher admitted to sleeping in the same bed with the student, while claiming there was ‘never any physical contact,’ according to her arrest affidavit.

But it gets better.

Cunningham also told authorities the overnight stays were initiated by the student. Never mind her being the authority figure and whose position of power the educator was transgressing.

The teacher let detectives search the home. During their search, investigators seized a cell phone, computer and her school-issued laptop, items which were used to build a case against Cunningham.

During investigations it was revealed the teacher would force her victim to erase all text communications they had every morning.

Explained Lora Beckham, assistant DA with Montgomery County: ‘In cases like this we look for red flags, obviously if the defendant uses their authority to manipulate a victim.’

Matters increasingly became so devolved between the teacher and her victim that Cunningham at one point threatened to end her own life.

Cunningham turned herself in on Dec. 19. She was charged with second-degree felony improper relationship between educator/student and later released from jail after posting $50,000 bond.

Montgomery County Prosecutor Lora Beckman explained that the charge Cunningham faces gives prosecutors ‘the ability to prosecute defendants who are in positions of authority and power and who manipulate that power and authority and victimize students, who they supervise at their school, regardless of their age.’

Officials with The Woodlands Christian Academy notified parents of the accusations against Cunningham in a letter.

‘The safety of our students is our top priority,’ school officials wrote. “We take seriously the faith and trust you put in us to care for your children. Through training, policies and promoting a nurturing and professional culture at The Woodlands Christian Academy, our employees learn the high standards and expectations we have of them regarding their interactions with students. This news is deeply upsetting, and we will thoroughly review this situation and identify additional steps to protect our school community.”

Darlington County English teacher arrested sleeping w/ student

Here we go again. A South Carolina high school teacher has been accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student, officials said Monday.

Anna Elizabeth Jeanette Patton, 22, lured is alleged to have lured her teen victim by sending several raunchy messages and lewd photos via text and an array of social media over three months, between Oct. 1, 2019 and Jan. 11, according to arrests warrants from the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.

She ‘did knowingly communicate with the juvenile victim … through social media and text messaging for the purpose of enticing the victim to engage in sexual activities,’ according to the warrant, cited by SCNow.

The pair allegedly had sex on multiple occasions.

Released on bail and ordered to stay away from teen victim:
A Darlington County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said she couldn’t reveal the gender of the alleged victim.

Patton — an English teacher at Lamar High School — was charged with criminal solicitation of a minor, obscenity/disseminating harmful material or exhibiting harmful performance to minors, and sexual battery with a student 16 or 17 years of age with no aggravated force or coercion.

Patton is accused of having sexual intercourse and performing oral sex on multiple occasions, SCNow reports.

She was placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation, Audrey Childers, a spokesperson for the Darlington County School District said in a statement to SCNow.

Patton was released on $7,500 bond at her initial court appearance on Monday and ordered not to contact the victim or the victim’s family and not to return to school grounds, public records show. She is due back in court on May 6.

A 2017 article in The Patriot, the student newspaper at Francis Marion University, where Patton graduated from, describes her as the single mother of a boy.

Unclear is what led to the teacher abusing her position of trust, authority and power to sexually prey on her teen victim.

Berryhill High School teacher has threesome w/ student & another woman

Joyce Churchwell Berryhill High School teacher and volleyball coach in Tulsa, Oklahoma accused of having threesome with teen student and former female teacher.
A married Oklahoma high school teacher has been accused of having a threesome in her home with a then 18 year old student and a former teacher in the district, a report said.

Joyce Churchwell, a volleyball coach at Berryhill High School in Tulsa, connected with the teen via Snapchat and invited him over to her home last school year, according to News on 6, citing the local sheriff’s office.

Churchwell and the other woman, a former teacher in the district, messaged the student, stating that they were at Churchwell’s residence and that her husband was out of town, and inviting him over for a threesome, according a probable cause affidavit.

The student ‘admitted that this encounter had taken place at the teacher’s home along with another adult female — a former teacher at the district,’ Casey Roebuck, a spokeswoman for the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office said.

The incident is alleged to have occurred mid 2019.

The matter came to police attention in December, when the school resource officer received a tip amidst rumors at school.

Churchwell turned herself in Tuesday after authorities issued a warrant for her arrest. The female educator was charged with rape.

The age of consent in Oklahoma is 16, however if the victim is between 16 and 20 years old and is a student and engages in sexual intercourse with a school system employee, it is defined as rape in state law.

Authorities believe there may be more victims. Amid the investigation, they discovered Churchwell had messaged another student, who didn’t comply.

The other adult woman who engaged in the threesome has so far not been charged in the case.

Churchwell was placed on a leave of absence, the school said in a statement.

‘The Berryhill School District takes the safety of its students very seriously and does everything it can to provide a safe learning environment.

‘The district is currently cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation of these allegations and will take appropriate action when the investigation is completed.’

Churchwell remained in custody on Wednesday evening pending a cash bond of $5,000.

It remained unclear why the female educator abused her position of trust, authority and trust and sexually preyed on her alleged male victim(s).
