first off, if this is being discussed in another thread, my bad.
Second, I haven't seen the movie, so try not to give anything good away.
My main purpose in this is to see what everyone who has seen the film thinks about it?
I could download it or try to watch it streaming, but basically my computer is shit and I don't have any space on my HD anyway, so I'll wait for the DVD(oh yeah, i wont watch it in theatres cuz im poor).
So if you've seen it,without giving much away, what did u think? My guess is since we're all on this site, most of us wouldn't be as grossed out, but I have heard countless stories of people just walking out in 10 minutes. And I haven't yet seen a positive review by any of my friends.

i thought it was terrible. you can tell the scripted moments. and sometimes it just seems mean, not funny.
it's one thing to punk people with foreigners. people usually don't know other customs. and it was more self-deprecating. but punking people who are homophobic, while probably deserving, isn't as funny.
im about 30 min in and only a couple laughs and a few chuckles. def too much scripted- both with actors and in the forced storyline. and totally not enough gay sex and male nudity.

I watched all the Ali G episodes of the old HBO tv show years ago and have been a fan for a long time. The Ali-g movie (all acting) was terrible, but i knew exactly what i was getting with Borat and Bruno (sometimes shockingly much more haha). That being said I enjoyed the movie and laughed my ass off, but I knew exactly what was coming. If you don't think it is funny to punk ignorant people who are homophobic, than yea obviously you won't enjoy the movie since basically that is the whole point. I find his work hilarious because yes what he is saying is funny, and sometimes over the top, but you have to remember the people he is interacting with REALLY believe he is that portrayal of Bruno; its like a two for one. Add to the fact that basically the movie is a series of him interacting with real people and interviews, and then they make up some stupid storyline and film scenes to weave one interview to the next. What is more disgusting than anything else in this movie, even the shock scenes is the ignorance and stupidity of real people in this world and how certain people act in given situations of the movie. I am speaking around the topics, as to not give the movie away, Mheat said he didn't see it.

I think most of the "real" situations in this movie were staged. I thought it was pretty unimpressive. There are enough laughs to say it's worth watching on DVD, but it wasn't worth a trip to the theater.
I thought there were some funny scenes, but was left wanting more. I believe some of the let down is being caused by the fact that borat had a huge shock factor whereas bruno not so much. i also heard they cut 20 mins including some jackson family stuff so the dvd could have some real gems

i think its really funny that most people don't know where the characters come from, and also how the most hilarious parts(and sad/scary) of borat were that people were being normal and themselves (ie the rodeo scene or the frat kids)
