Is it worth the drive and money I'd spend, or should I stick to my zoo membership? Tell you this much, the zoo membership got me and my girlfriend and her daughter and brother all into the aquarium in Charleston for half price. Saved us like $40.

well, it's pretty cheap to get in. I think $8. But if it's an issue I can probably get you in for free. It's the largest indoor exhibit in the US, but it still will only take you an hour or so to go through the whole building. There are only snakes and crocodiles there, but it is a beautiful collection. Many rare crocodilians, and snake species. But if you are not a big fan it might not be worth it for you.

When we go to the zoo, we usually spend 2-3 hours, and normally the last hour or so of that is in the reptile house. I love to look at snakes even though I normally don't like to touch them. The zoo in columbia has some great species, like the green mambas, that just enthrall me. I spend most of my zoo trips viewing the snakes/reptiles and then the birds (both ends of the dinosaur clades?). It's awesome stuff.

When I was a kid, I would make a beeline to the reptile house and stay there all day. They have a beautiful green mamba exhibit there, and a really cute little baby in the back. If you want to go, let me know and I will get the curator to show you around.
Riverbanks is one of the best zoos in the country.
