they are DVD+R, same type and brand i have used before. the files i need to move to a disc are .avi so i have just decided to use DIVX and burn them to a dvd as a media and so far it appears to be working, but i was really hoping to do a simple "copy file to" cd/dvd drive and then the good old fashioned "you have files waiting to be written" routine.

I understand DVD-R are the best for video files. They are more compatible with the home DVD players. I just use Nero. This is the one I use and I know it works.

i always had a lot of luck using Nero for making data disc using DVD's i use to have like version 4 or something got it free with a dvd drive. no idea what happened to the disc but i can't find it anymore.

Your DVD burner is dead. Same thing happened to me. It would still burn cd's, but not dvd's. I Bought a new one and used the same dvd r's I was trying before and it worked like a champ.

nah, it burns just fine as long as i'm using it to burn movies, i want to use blank DVD's for data storage cuase of the increased space. so i went ahead with the NERO 8 software

Check dealnews.com everyday. If you take advantage of a delectable deal, don't check back for HDD deals for a while because it will piss you off to see the same drive at 1.5 or double the capacity at the same price in a couple weeks - but I digress.
