a recluse can bite, theyre fangs are plenty long enough to puncture the skin, the combination of venoms the recluse uses are mainly necrotoxins and together cause a hyper allergic-like reaction in a decent percentage of the population called necrosis...the highly tramatic looking wounds claimed by the recluse are more the person then the acual venom but necrotoxin will destroy the tissue where the bite happened, leaves a little black scar, i have two
mythbusters did a show about "daddy longleg" spiders and they also have fangs long enough to break the skin but its a myth they have potent venom

It's true the teeth are long enough but there is some evidence that they just don't have the ability to break our skin without some help. At least that's a paper I read a while back. I looked for it but I can't find it.

Largest spider in the world. Some have longer legs, but pound for pound this is the largest. They are as big as dinner plates. This is my female after a molt (shed). I couldn't get her to pose for a better picture. They are very quick to kick hairs and it is itchy as hell. Plus they are very soft after a molt and I didn't want to spook her.
Here is her molt. If you moisten it a little you can pose it to make it look like a real spider. This way you can leave them around the house and office to scare the shit out of new girlfriends or co-workers.

Got two of these on Tuesday. They are about 4-5" long and may grow another inch. Unfortunately this picture does not show their beautiful blue color. I didn't want to mess with this guy to long because they have a really bad bite. This species comes from Chile.

Rose Hair Tarantula
Got this beauty on Tuesday and yesterday she started to make an egg web. She will continue to build this web until it is as strong as steel and then she will lay all her eggs in it. Then she will wrap it up and carry it around for 30 or 40 days until the 200 or so eggs inside start to hatch. Then she will open the sac and let the little spiderlings out. Then they are on her own. While she is carrying the sac around she will turn it and control heat and humidity better than a commercial incubator. She will also protect it with her life.

If you need me I'll just be circling the maternity ward, listening for screams with my glass ready in hand.

I never count my spiders before they are hatched. This species is pretty cheap to buy. Probably can get an adult for $30 and babies for $5. It's a ton of work separating all those babies and raising them. Plus hatching the egg sac is a pain in the ass too. So if the thing hatches and I have a bunch of babies, I am not sure what I will do with them. Most likely give a bunch away to friends and wholesale out what is left. I really didn't want this egg sac but now that she is laying it I am going to try to hatch it.
