I recommend that you read a book about evolution by natural selection. There are lots of excellent choices I could point you to if you're interested, but a good introduction is The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins.
I had to read books about it because it was never taught to me in school. I happen to be an atheist but many theists also believe in evolution. However in America it's difficult to get into a discussion about it because many, many people don't understand what evolution means. For example, someone might say "I don't think we came into being by random chance, so I think evolution is false," when all they're doing is revealing that they don't understand what they're talking about; the point of natural selection is that it is not random chance at all, but quite the opposite.

Current laws of physics allow for the big bang theory.
Here's the thing. I know there's not a perfect explanation for the origin of the universe. But that ignorance does not necessitate the existence of a God.
Most importantly, I don't believe in god because I do not see it's existence, meaning when I see a tree, the sun, my own son, I do not see a god's work.
It is an absence of faith.

When it comes to religion, for me, it's either you believe in an all powerful being or you don't, whatever you call It, it doesn't matter... just like there are different languages there are different ways of saying Its name.
Then break it down even further... either you believe that your great, great, great grandfather was a monkey or you believe that this all powerful being took pity on us and gave half of us supple breasts and nice round butts and the other half the ability to worship them, do you think we could evolve them to perfection? I don't know, but we've seen fine examples on this forum, think of it. Humans as a whole, we're a flawed species. I'd rather think of them as gifts.
I'm not mocking, just making use of this other thing we were given called a sense of humor. You bet this being has a sense of humor as well, it gave some 2" members... the joke? It is in those poor bastard's hands.
