Members only links is what got me as well.
But you can become a member without adding to the discussion. There are so many types of personalities on here. There are those that are more outgoing that join in on the conversation and get their posts counts up higher that in turn gets them into the vet club and makes them feel more comfortable. There are also those that sit on the outskirts and throw in a comment when they feel comfortable enough to do it.
Personally, I took a while to get to know the board and some of the personalities before I started posting. I am also one that sits on the outside and throws in the comment when I feel like I can add to a discussion. That is also how I am off of the board.
There isn't really that much that you can do to promote more membership. Is it a desired outcome to have this be the biggest forum on the internet? I think that it is a well oiled machine now and works just fine save for the emo posters that think people hate them and need to start a thread asking for the ban hammer.
Is the forum really dying or is it just one of the slow times that are bound to happen as they would with anything in life. As some members leave others will step up and take their place.

Agreed.....my apologies gentleman, I now see your side.....I was ranting about something different (general stupidity vs. innocence).
Mostly - my venemous reply was fueled by the raging hard-on from that "Johnny Cash/volleyball dancers" vid that Pen posted. I wasn't able to harness the power in a postive manner.

Quagmire posted the original, I reposted to a quicker a server and got the hi-res version. Glen gets the credit for the original find...and yes I have the hi-res version in my playlist
In any forum there will always be a high percentage of people that just lurk.
There are simply just too many people that don't have the time or desire to make friends online. They want to get some music or porn and leave.
For anybody to even be acknowledged in this forum by most of you (including me) you must have at least 50+ posts and most people just don't want to get that involved.
All forums are the same... 80-90% lurk, 10-20% post. It's the nature of forums. Stop worrying about the forum dying.
