I don't trust any drive installation programs (esp ones from microsoft). I prefer to go to the manufacturers website and make sure I'm getting the right stuff. But if you're getting a pre-built computer, you probably won't have a choice.

Not pre-built. Me built. I'm just upgrading my os cuz I got a one time use XP productkey from an IT guy I know. I can search out drivers, but I wondered if you had a program you liked.
Yea, get a list of your components, manufacturer, model, version. Then go to their respective websites and get the drivers from them.
FIRST driver to install is the chipset driver. Usually Intel, AMD or VIA. Once you get windows loaded, install that. Then do all the rest in any order.
Even better use a program called nlite/vlite to "slipstream" all your drivers into a copy of your OS disk so they're installed during the load of Windows.

Hopefully, by the time I need to wipe again, these drivers will be out of date....
Another question: Is there a way to discover and restore my Firefox bookmarks? I found some of the IE favorites in Windows.old, but not the same list as FF. Also, my wife had her own list in her yahoo toolbar.

Yep. Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import and Backup. Assuming you still have access to the old ones. They are also stored in your profile directory.
