Dana's a vengeful little troll, but he's also an attention whore. Whether or not this was worked is up for debate. But it got mainstream publicity, and that's all that matter. As long as BL passes the Wellness Program, he'll be Dana's golden goose.
As for BL, he's one of these once in a lifetime pure athletes. a jock who's been pampered his entire life. He's a big, spoiled baby who pouts like a little bitch when he doesn't get his way. But he's TV gold. People are talking about him and UFC. 101 will have a huge buyrate.

Oh there's no doubt White will do everything he can to keep Lesnar happy. But somehow expressing interest in Fedor at the presser indicates that he either wants to punish Lesnar, or prove his long standing point that Fedor is a fat hack (despite his long career of destroying the best of the best).
There's no doubt Lesnar's got everything he needs to dominate at every sport a big man could try. He's a phenomenal athlete. Personally, I just like it better when the humility and sportsmanship of traditional martial arts carries over into MMA. But that's me personally, I'm sure most other folks just love cheering or booing.
Regardless, the biggest problem I have with Lesnar's comments right after the fight is that he doesn't seem to understand that Bud Light DID pay him! They were the sponsor for the event he got paid for participating in! So, long story short, he's a dumbass and a brat, but it'll be fun to watch people try to kill him.

hahahahahahahaha.
i was watching a replay of that fight today and they had the overhead shot this time (maybe i missed it in the original broadcast?) and once bisping hit the floor he started twitching. then that shot at the end was so much more brutal seeing it from that angle. no wonder he was out cold for a few minutes.

I dunno. Dana's a control freak. I think he has that "I made 'em, so I can break 'em" attitude. And pissing on a sponsor will definitely shake up his little kingdom. I'm sure if Lesnar got called on the carpet for anything, it was that.
I come from a pro wrestling background, and have always loved heels. And I have a real weakness to cheer for goofballs and assholes, like Lieben, Clay Guida, Tito Ortiz. Not those fucking Browning retards and that fetal alcohol syndrome kid Nate Diaz. Or dudes who are total badasses and know it and kind of throw it around, like Liddell, Tito, Mir, BJ Penn. But how can you not cheer for a dude who's a true class act like Georges St. Pierre? But Lesnar's a totally different fish. I think this guy is just an immature baby. Being a phenom, holding the richest prize in your sport after 5 fights, being this fucking monster that can (so far) walk through anyone who's thrown at him isn't enough. He has to be some top heel in a sport where few of us give a shit about personalities or "characters". And in the process pisses away the mainstream goodwill that Dana, say what you will about him, has busted his ass to earn.
Lesnar's a mixed bag. UFC has gotten a big shot of mainstream exposure. And I guess buyrates are buyrates. The next Lesnar PPV will be a monster because because people will want to see what's causing all this. But his actions, long term, gives the sport a black eye. And when someone else offers BL a bigger payday, or a bigger ego stroke, he'll jump in a heartbeat. And not be a bit concerned about the damage he's caused.

I think what I like about lesner, other than the fact that he is a freak athlete, is that he brings that pro wrestling flair to ufc. He's a total prick, which makes him fun to watch.

I don't like the asshole antics, and believe while it may attract some, will ultimately dilute the sport - maybe making it bigger by attracting joe's, but getting away from legitimacy.
I always respect talent, and believe you can leave the disrespect out of the sport and still exert your dominance.
One of the things that attracted me to MMA was the potential for the influences of eastern martial arts. I come from an American boxing & collegiate wrestling background myself, and the lack of class always has bothered me.
Unlike professional (fake) wrestling, MMA bouts must be sanctioned by truer athletic bodies in various states, and Zuffa has been lobbying hard for NY, etc. This will not help (aside from the obvious HGH & roid questions that will follow).
As for that card though - any question that wrestling dominated?
Flatten the hips and BJJ is really ineffective. You still need a mix these days, but I think it's proven the needed base is wrestling.
I know that's not popular around here based upon previous discussions, but that old muscle-up take-down defense striking is still there - And Hendo is still the MAN!
I predict issues for those who use BJJ as base (Brazilians) as guys continue to bulk up.

But wasn't the point of BJJ, or at least the Gracie system, for a smaller guy to take out a bigger guy?
Whether it's popular or not, it's the truth.
I think the most well rounded fighter will always (mostly) prevail. A pure wrestler will always beat a pure boxer because the wrestler has more options. The same would be true for a Mixed Martial Artist, which has become a form unto itself. The more skills you have, the more options you have. If you focus on striking mostly, you're going to get hooked.

Yeah, that and I think just less technical a fighter. Now that there is cross-training and even brawlers know to look for arm bars chokes and hooks, I think it's neutralized alot, but still awesome technique.
The very fundamental way I see it is wrestling is dominance, BJJ is offense through defense (counter fighting). The other night it was shown in multiple fights (Lesnar & GSP most noticeably) that a bull technique is still tough when that rusher has real skills (and Hendo would have done the same thing if he had too). That old boring Ohio and Quest wet blanket, as some call it.
And I say that is the only hope against all but the guys like Maia, who seems to have so many dimensions that it will take overwhelming force, or just a while for someone to figure it out and train similarly.
The MMA athlete is the most advanced for my money.
I can't wait to see how this progresses.
