Isn't Machida's ground game supposed to be really polished (his BJJ at least)? I could have sworn I read that, but then again we don't have a whole lot to go off of.

He holds a black belt, but couldn't find the school, and there has been some contridicting info out there - per Bad Boys presser when they signed him last year "Machida is a third-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate and recently received his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu." so...
Bottom line is he hasn't been tested on the ground by a wrestler (as I said in my earlier post) so that's as good a guess as to any if there's a key to beating him. Karate is all about angles, avoidance, and points, and that's what I see him doing. Either catch him awkward or bull rush him - but that's all easier said than done.

Anyone watch Dream? I like Joe Warren. Gave up Olympic gold for the pot. That and he beat one of the best FWs in the world in his second fight. Beat a former WEC champ in his pro debut.
Oh, and the HW tourney is a fucking joke. Fucking retarded shit, but would have been nice to see Canseco take a big punch and get fucking KTFO'd instead of laying there getting pummelled until they called it.

the guy definitely needs to polish up his stand up but man you'll be hard pressed to find a better wrestler right now. holding down kid for that long is pretty damn impressive especially since not too long ago i'd be spouting off to anyone who would listen that kid was possibily the most talented guy in all of mma...

oh c'mon, you know you love it . and mousasi vs soak-a-jew should be a pretty good scrap at least.

The first round was a joke, but I am looking forward to seeing Soko vs Mousasi. The best part about it being a sideshow is that none of the fights took more than a couple minutes. Still liked the overall show. Japenese MMA is always entertaining even if it is fucking ridiculous at times and the FW tourney had some really good fights so I was pleased.
BTW, Mousasi is sick. If he wins the MW tourney one year then the HW the next, you gotta respect that.

Mousasi looks like a great MW, but his toughest competition @ heavy/light heavy in this should come from a UFC washout in Sokoudjou (though I have & do still like him). This is not a true HW tourney.
Guess I bought into the hype a bit, cause I was disappointed that Miller/Jacare ended that way.

Almost forgot about this. Mousasi is done at MW. He said he can't take the weight cut anymore. I guess he plans to stay at LHW or even HW. He's not as big as a lot of guys who fight at MW, but maybe his body can't take it.

I believe that like Anderson Silva, Machida got his BJJ blackbelt under the Nogueiras. Like Anderson, he's not at Demian Maia's level of jits, but he can handle himself.
The hard part would actually getting him down. He's had pretty extensive training in sumo, and he defended the takedown well against Tito.
