Well said. I have belonged to at least a dozen boards over the years and i have seen this over and over. People create an identity on the forum and they get known for this identity. Usually the identity is the ideal persona of what that user would like to be in real life but isn't.
After spending so much time reinforcing this identity, when they get kicked off or banned that person gets upset because he now has to start over on another message board and loses all the time spent building this online persona.
And even though nobody knows each other in real life, they get hurt because getting kicked off looks bad and hurts the user's reputation (that belongs to a fictional persona).
The forum is supposed to be an escape. It's not supposed to become your life, people.
I totally agree. I remember when I first started hitting up the net back in 1998 and I got into the whole secret life of the internet and did everything to make people like me....WTF it's the net.....lol. And thats a trap that a lot of people all fall into with making the net a part of their real life and sometimes a small/big part of their real life. People need to realize the internet is a fake environment you can come to and not have to worry about who you and what lifestyle you live and no one will ever know.

Quite a few have hit it on the head already, its the fucking internet. Its an escape for us from time to time, and some more than others. But for me my online persona is the same as it is in real life. There are rules on this forum as in life, follow them and everyone lives a good life. Why this thread is up to 20 pages about shit that I honestly can not even recall and yes I know I can re-read it but its old. There are plenty of good people on here, yeah so what if everyone is a smartass or an asshole every once in a while. Its stirring up shit just to stir it up which is fucking lame. I have enough bullshit in my own life I do not bother engaging in online drama. When it comes to coding links, that is for everyone's safety here. Its common sense, so policing that is an understood thing in my mind, if I can read and count (using my toes of course) then why can't everyone who has been bombarding the site.
Never mind this rant - my hangover has apparently cleared and I am sitting here talking to myself and my dogs are both looking at me like I am fucking crazy.
I just posted the cure for cancer and it got deleted.
If the 'WTF' thread was still around, I'd post a gigantic 'WTF' in it.
What's wrong with poking fun of people taking themselves too seriously in explaining how to NOT take the internet so seriously?
I'm being baited, I think. Look, I've made it no secret that I'm rolling over at the other forum too. Who the fuck cares? We're not married. I don't wish ill upon this place and I enjoy posting here.
