Wow well today was an awesome day. I went to my nephews school for Veteran day, He had yesterday off so today the school brought in Veterans from almost every war, from World War 2 to the war of today. I was very happy see to that these kids get to meet these brave men. They had a big assembly with a few veterans talked about what it means to be a veteran, one speaker that stood out was a USMC retired Colonel who told a very tear jerking story about leading young men in to war, He told us about how hard it is for anyone not to be afraid of going to war. He lead us all in the pledge of allegiance, and it brought a tear to my eye seeing these young kids saying it and not really knowing why we have veterans day. I always have my nephew put his hand over his heart when the national anthem is being played, He asked why we do it, I told his it's out of respect for the young men and women who fight for us and who have fought in the past. He saw some parents not putting their hands on their hearts and asked me why they don't. I said some people don't feel like they need too. I told him no matter what you believe in when you grow, you should always show respect to the people who allowed us to live the way we do. Respect is something every veteran has earned and you have the choice not to put your hand over your heart and not to stand for the national anthem because these veterans fought for your right to choose.
Personal, I'm always fucking disgusted by people who don't stand for the national anthem, and don't have enough respect to put their hand over their heart. Ok so you don't like the president or your countries views, so show respect to those who have fallen to make sure your fucking ass can do what you do. I asked the Colonel what was hardest for him to do when at war. He said knowing that some of those faces you see today won't be there tomorrow and seeing a troop lose a friend or a teammate. Again thank you all veterans in wartime and not, and the soldiers who fought to give us this country we call home!
