Nature never fails to amaze me. It's awesome the way that glottis evolved to allow snake to eat and breathe at the same time.
Oh and I looked at that snake vid. No only is that sick, but isn't that also animal cruelty?

A friend sent this to me today. This is the caption: Someone took these photos in his back yard in Atherton 5o km out of Cairns good place for a holiday.
You don't see this very often in your back yard.

This may piss a couple of you off.. but if that thing was in my backyard.. it would get the garden hose followed by the shovel.. neighborhood children could start disappearing into that web..
On that note..
What the hell kind of spider is it.. i thought the US only had the black widow and brown recluse to watch out for

Doesn't piss me off. It is a typical reaction. That is a spider in the orb weaver family. They build a new web everyday and the web is almost impossible to escape when caught in them. It is apparent that was a very young finch that got caught in the web. I assume the spider let it struggle until it was exhausted and then casually walked over and delivered some venom. All spiders are venomous but only a few can hurt humans. This particular spider probably would only hurt like hell if it bit you, but it has enough of a punch to subdue small prey. That bird is not it's typical diet, but she isn't going to refuse a free meal.
On another note, spiders are the most beneficial critter in your backyard. They eat all the pest insects that would be in uncontrollable numbers if it wasn't for spiders and bats. Spiders are your friend people!

Dude, ive seen Charlotte's web.. I know they are supposed to be my friend..
But really.. if you don't *love* spiders.. knowing that thing is back there is fucking crazy... however, if it wasn't super aggressive.. i will admit I would probably try to feed it just to see it do its thing.
you ever see these Japanese video's where they make the 2 animals fight to the death?? I just saw a scorpion and crayfish\lobster fight.. fucking scorpion stings the lobster in the eye!!!!
let me see if I can find it

ha ha ha I am glad you read CW. A big spider like that is highly visible and will probably make its web in the same place everyday. They are very smart and set up house in an area that has the most chances of a bug flying into its web. So you can go out and visit it everyday. A friend of mine in Alabama has them in her backyard and we go out and put crickets in the web for it to eat.
I've seen some videos like that. People are savages. We are no better than any other animal in the jungle.
