We'll get the serious question out of the way first:
Should Alex Baldwin be arrested and charged with manslaughter for the"accidental death on his movie set?

I'll have to say absolutely to this one. Regardless whether or not someone told you that the gun was safe, once it is in your hand it becomes your responsibility to check that the weapon is unloaded or otherwise safe to handle. This is something just about everyone who handles weapons even on a semi-regular basis has been instructed to do. I get that he is likely a gun hating liberal, but it is a tool of his trade, and I'm certain over the many films he has used a gun as a prop someone, somewhere told him about his responsibilities regarding gun safety.

Now for the fun, what do you all think about the purported sequel to Hocus Pocus?...

Thumbs up from me. It will be even more realistic than the first, no longer any need for make-up. Just film Bette, SJP, Kathy Najimy sans make-up and it'll be the scariest movie ever made.

The problem with the movie set scenario is that the entire purpose of an armorer is that they are responsible for the condition and care of the firearms on a set. Often times these weapons are loaded in such a way, for special effects, that tampering with them after the armorer has prepped them can make them dangerous. Movie sets have code terms to let everyone on set know exactly what type of weapon is on set at any time -- cold gun, hot gun, etc. The problem on this set was that the armorer was an inexperienced rookie who was in way over her head. There was absolutely no reason for live ammo to be on that set at any time for any reason. Period.

The movie was being run on a shoestring to save money. The workers were being worked long hours against union rules and scabs were being brought in to make deadlines. The crew was using the prop guns for horsing around and plinking and such, when they should never have had access to those weapons under any circumstances. Especially after hours. Everything about this situation was a disaster waiting to happen.

Is Baldwin a douche? Yes. Was he acting like an ass with the weapon when he should not have? Probably. Does he deserve to be charged with manslaughter? I don't think so. Ultimately it is the armorer's responsibility to ensure those weapons are safe to handle on set. The AD is responsible for ensuring that the set is orderly and should probably have stopped Baldwin from brandishing the pistol in the direction of the director. There's a lot of blame to be handed out here. I don't know if there is a clear cut response to this tragedy. Perhaps there will be a series of civil suits in response to what happened. Who knows. I'm just not sure about actual criminal prosecution of Baldwin.

Just my humble opinion.

Also . . . no opinion about the Hocus Pocus sequel

Sad part about this is everyone is forgetting the victim in this. It has become a political thing for the right to blame Alec Baldwin for the incident. I can bet if it was Clint Eastwood who this happened to it wouldn't get the same scrutiny from the right. It is crazy to think the actor should open the gun and check that the rounds are blanks that is the job of the armorer. Do I think Baldwin is an ass yes but this isn't his fault. BTW can anyone throwing stones at Baldwin name the girl who died I bet 95% couldn't. Also I might add I collect guns and I still have this view

He wasn't horsing around pointing it at people the camera angle was him looking towards the camera and shooting.

Early reports on the incident said he was "acting angrily" and pointed the gun towards the camera. That was probably wrong. I'm no expert on movie set dynamics, but I'm a bit unclear as to why you would line up a camera angle to put the director (Joe Souza) and cinematographer (Halyna Hutchins) in direct line of a firearm being fired. I think that again may point to the haphazard way the entire production was being handled.
