Statute of limitations on collection of a debt is 3 to 6 years, depending on the state and the type of debt. If you can just put up with 6 more years of early morning phone calls, you may be able to avoid paying it completely. Of course, that six years starts over again any time you indicate that you're going to pay, or make a payment, or take a breath, and of course they can continue to try to collect in the future, even if they've lost the legal right to, plus they'll probably sell the debt to other entities, who will also continue to call, so there may be a few holes in that plan, but for the most part it's sound.
