Hey guys, sorry to make a serious thread, but I figured we haven't had a breakup or a mylifehasgonetoshit thread recently, and I actually need some advice from anyone out there.
The issue: I'm a senior in college, and I want to go to law school. I am majoring in Spanish, and with my grades, I will definitely not get into an Ivy League school. My dad is a middle-class worker, we are not well-off in the least. Our family friends are generally upper-middle class and are living very comfortably. He wants me to have the same luxuries they do(not having to worry about bills, etc) and to not have to go through the skimping on things that he has to.
As I can't get into an Ivy League Law School(trust me, even with a 180 on the lsat, i've got a .01% chance), he thinks I should look for other options, because in his mind, Ivy League is all that matters if looking for a profession in the law field.
He's suggesting majoring in Engineering, or doing a Physician's Assistant program, MD, Business, etc etc.
I know what you're thinking..."you're a spanish major". Yup. Which would mean I'd need to take at least 60 more credits in another major to get that extra degree and THEN go to graduate school in a certain field.
My question to you guys is, from your experience and knowledge of this situation, what would you suggest doing? Should I just graduate from school as a Spanish major and go to a lower-tier law school and hope for a job? Should I take 2 more yrs of college in business or engineering(neither of which I'm interested in) and stick it out to go to Law School then and hope I can get into a respectable school and have an engineering background, giving me an attractive resume?
I'm really confused if you can't tell, and in need of some ideas. I appreciate your help. And your ridicule, of course.
This is the Thunderdome, so suck my tiny e-dick motherfucker!!!!!

I don't know anything about law schools, but I know a couple of lawyers. I'll ask their opinion for you. I also have had experience with my ex-wife's lawyer, who was the epitome of scum suckers. My Duke attorney kicked his ass and wiped the floor with his face, so I vote you don't become like him. In fact, he's pretty close to losing his license for all the stupid shit he and the ex pulled. But I digress. I'll report back to you from the folks I know.
I know Pops usually looks out for the kid, but you need to do what you want, not what he thinks is best for you. I don't know shit about law school, but I went to a small culinary school at the same time that Johnson & Wales opened up here in Charlotte, and I get just as much if not more respect around the restaurants here even though 90% of the city has no idea my school exists. I know the Ivy League gets you that nose in the air aura, but you can get a very good education outside of the Ive League too. I would keep looking into other options and find a school that's right for you, work your ass off, get respect because you earn it not because you went to Harvard, and be happy with what you've accomplished.
There's nothing more exhilarating than pointing out the shortcomings of others, is there?

Just graduate and get a job. The only reason to stay in school is if you get to go for free. You're wasting your time and money if you are racking up student loans.

I don't consider 3k a semester cheap, but whatever. That is just tuition. It doesn't include books and living expenses. Not to mention you are probably giving up at least 50k a year to continue going to school.

opportunity cost...what a bitch!
don't count yourself out because you won't go to an ivy league school. and hell, you don't know that you won't get in. if watching the movie little giants has taught me anything it is that there is always that "one time" where something that is so unlikely to happen does. yes! i did just work in a reference to a 90s movie staring rick moranis.
there are plenty of respectable law schools that aren't yale or harvard. talk to your advisor about what your options are.
I think if you really want to be a lawyer (Why I have no idea) then you should scrap the Spanish and work toward a degree that will get you in a law school. I also don't think you should be discouraged about not getting in an ivy league school. If you're a good lawyer and work hard you will be successful.
What's the difference between a catfish and a lawyer?
Ones a scum sucking bottom dweller and the other is a fish.
