My Rapidshare premium account has expired...I want to renew it, but i don't know if i see the point only being able to DL 2.5 Gigs a day...Should i go back to torrents or just renew it and stick to the 2.5
Really? I always got shit speed from RS. Like ~100kbps. Depending on the torrent, I get great speeds. I see a lot of my torrents from tvtorrents.com hit 1Mbps down (and stay at that).
edit - new torrents from there. Like the episode was just posted.
I know its slightly skewed from your question, but I have been getting speeds of between 1-2Mbps on my Megaupload premium account. I have never liked RS, mainly used newsgroups prior to this.

I've got a MU account but I mostly upload there so I've never noticed the speeds enough to get a good idea of an average.
I've gone the newsgroup route before. They are pretty good and much faster then torrents. And I love that one program, I forgot the name, but if you were missing pieces, it would magically get them for you. That was awesome.

I went through Usenet, and had the unlimited package (cant remember the name of it) and it was definitely sweet for speeds. Plus the alt.binaries search engines online helped a ton too. Are you referring to the .par files that would rebuild the .rar files?
I like the upload on MU but the download is fucking sweet. Those speeds are wireless to my laptop over FIOS too. My server is connected to the router directly but its headless so kinda useless for this shit.

Yeah, the par files and NZB files. GrabIt is the program I was thinking of.
FIOS? How's that treating you? And dude, FIOS to wireless? Fuck that.
If I had FIOS where I lived, I'd upgrade my LAN to Gigabit just to be sure I'm not going to run into any bottle necks.
Wireless is good and all, but I don't trust it with speed.

Well at the moment where I have had to move twice in the last year now I have most of my furniture still in storage. So my server is getting the nice line speed because its tucked out of the way with the router, and I do most of my surfing on the coach. Everything wired is hooked up through gigabit nic, and my wireless products are all N. Overall though, the FIOS is pretty sweet. I didn't take their cable package at all, I just push everything to my plasma from my laptop via HDMI out. I have a Pioneer Elite plasma, and it has a ethernet jack on the back and media center-ish(very loosley saying that) software built in, but its so fucking lame I dont even connect through that. But my laptop is a 17" widescreen with 1900x1200 with dual 512 8700gt's, and streaming HD to this wirelessly still looks awesome.
I am sure there is a thread on here for the gadgets and toys we all have. I should search I would love to see what everyone is using. I made sure after my divorce not a single piece of technology was left behind. Hence the need for a storage unit until I buy a bigger place.
But back on point - I agree with you on wireless being nice but not the best solution, but it is what it is for me for right now. I have my gigabit switch, and my media center pc crying for some love. I had everything hooked with cat6 and gigabit switches at my old house. Had a whole house network with a central hub, and homeruns to each room.
