LaCie Joins the NAS Party with Network Space MAX
May 20, 2010

Just like their Stark collaboration and Internet Space storage units, LaCie delivers once again with their latest Network Space MAX - yet another stunning piece of design that merges aesthetics with function. And for that, we'll happily use it for both storage and display on our bookshelves, doubling as the fanciest bookend ever.

Now, onward with the details. If you don't know what a NAS is, it's basically a solution that allows for multiple computers at home to hook up into a single hard drive unit that houses everyone's data. If you're familiar with USB hard drives, NAS drives function just the same, except you plug it into the router directly via Ethernet instead of to your computer.

With of the amount of data sent around today, the Network Space MAX comes reasonably equipped with either 2TB or 4TB sizes, which should satisfy even the most aggressive downloader for months to come. If you're particularly paranoid, you can also run the two internal drives in RAID (or mirrored-mode), sacrificing half your capacity, but allowing for the second drive to use as real-time backup.

With gigabit Ethernet, a USB option if you still want to use it as a regular external, and Time Machine functionality, you can bet LaCie plans to make their little Network Space station your one-stop solution for getting your data shared around your local home network.

You can purchase the Network Space MAX for $280 (2TB) and $480 (4TB). Available now online and your local electronic store.
