I don't think Harry Potter would have been believable if it had been set anywhere else but in Europe. The only thing that has ever bothered me about the series is why aren't their any American Wizards or Witches. Do all backdrops have to revolve around Medieval Castles and Fortresses? Do we romanticize so much about the Dark Ages that no other additional setting is possible? Or is there so much anti-American sentiment that no one wants Americans capable of Magic?
