Patriotism is as fierce as a fever, pitiless as the grave, blind as a stone, and irrational as a headless hen.

Whatever turns your crank, my recently surprisingly more lucid Bahamian brother.

Funny that in all these arguments over what boils down to opinion, a guy like me is really left without representation. To be a middle class, not particularly religious, sole-providing family man and small business owner these days is like an endangered species. The debate over true conservatism stops at my door. I want nothing more than my daughters to be virginal, my earnings to be mine, and to be able to smoke my weed in privacy. Many of the values promoted by all these agendas are at their core agreeable to me; they just take it too far. And it seems as if us middle-of-the-road thinkers are thrown into uncomfortable choices; like accepting politicians of a perceived lesser evil, or groups of representation that you never are really sure of the underlying agendas because of the media manipulation.
The reality is, I wouldn't really trust anyone with the welfare of my children or the operation of my world for an extended period - but that's not really our choice anymore. If it wasn't the government, it would be the employers, or the gangs, etc. We just need to be educated enough to see them coming, and self sufficient enough to defend ourselves from being at their mercy. Taking up arms is for the hopeless, cause someone will always have a bigger hammer; we must out-play them.
