Should the U.S. drinking age be lowered ?

Should the U.S. drinking age be lowered from 21 to 18?

1. Yes, it makes sense.

2. Yes, if you're old enough to go to war, you're old enough to drink.

3. Yes, because they're going to drink anyway...

4. No, I'm not sure 18-year-olds should be given this much freedom.

5. No drinks for anyone under 21!

Totally agree that the drinking age should be 18. Everyone drinks before they're 18 anyway... not to mention it would free up the legal system from having to deal with need-less underage drinking arrests. It's just booze.

BTW, if you are in the armed forces, you can drink if you are under 21.

Going with #1, or #2, or #3... any of them work.
I think that if you're old enough to get your brain splattered all over some god-forsaken country in the name of this fucking country then you're old enough to get hammered and wake up with some other dude's balls in your face and/or take a shit in some bastard's mailbox whose rights you're protecting by going to said god-forsaken country.
We're trusted to vote at 18, and trusted with a 2-ton weapon at 16... Voting, that's something that can potentially affect millions of other fuckers not just the 2 or 3 that you could potentially take out if you went drinking and driving at 16. It's going to happen anyway, might as well make it legal. Besides, show of hands - who here doesn't want to see any more drunk 18 year old titties all over this forum?
Hell, make it 16 in the name of population control... 16 year old douche takes himself out along with his 2 douche friends, that's 3 less fuckers we gotta worry about knocking up some sluts that our tax dollars would have to pay for so they can deliver their bastard babies and then continue to pay for the next 18 years. Think about it, hosing them off the highway or replacing the telephone pole their face splintered is a lot cheaper than paying all those years. I'm all for my tax dollars paying for bombs, that's smart investment, not to raise some fucker's kid that's gonna make my kid's (if I ever have any) have to pay to raise his kids.
"Drinking and driving: nature's way of getting rid of the fuckers that probably shouldn't have been born anyway", their victims... sorry, life's a bitch sometimes, better luck next time around... we've all gotta die sometime, they just get bumped to the front of the line leaving the rest of us to waste away waiting for our turn.

I think the age for everything (but retirement) should be 18. If you can fight and die for your country, you should be able to do whatever the fuck you want.

SexyLion 08-20-2008 10:11 AM

Again, people, listen up. If you are on base, you can drink when you are 18, outside base you have to go by the state/country law.

So, if you want to do the whole die for your country at least you should be allowed to drink...don't act like a NooB and know what the f you are talking about.

Oh, and BttHead, I hope that someone does not have to clean up one of your family members off the highway cause some a-hole decided they could drink and drive!!!

that's interesting...i didn't know that

rdc2007 08-20-2008 10:31 AM

Oh yeah, even if you're 17 when you join (that does happen with parental consent), you're not getting carded at the liquor store on base. When I was in the Army, drinking age was still 18 so it wasn't a problem. We used to get off work, walk to the liquor store, then walk to the barracks, all within about 150 yards in a straight line. If I drank the amount to alcohol in a month that I used to drink in a weekend it would probably kill me.

I don't think that's true for American soldiers. I believe they are still required to follow the laws of the USA.

I voted for "old enough to go to war old enough to drink" which I agree with 100%. However, after years of being a bartender (now a part time bartender) the thought of having immature drunk teenagers in the beer is not fun. The 21-25 year old drunks are problems enough.
