Nba

I know a lot of you guys don't like the nba cuz the players are spoiled, etc etc, but if you DO like the nba, we can talk about it here.

Heat fan here, looking forward to the season.

With all the trades and players leaving their teams during the offseason, I'm confused as to exactly who's on which team, but with the start of fantasy basketball, im getting more acquainted with the new looks of teams.

(ie Brand in Philly, Baron a Clip, Yi Jianlian with the Nets, RJeff with the Bucks, Jermaine on Toronto)

Anyway, post ur teams and maybe playoff predictions?

If anyone cares, I'll put mine up:

EAST

1. Detroit Pistons (great regular season team, can't win in the playoffs anymore)
2. Boston Celtics (lost Posey, but same starting 5, so they'll be competitive)
3. Orlando Magic (damn the Southeast is so weak)
4. Philadelphia 76ers (Brand, Iguodala, Andre Miller, damn dawg)
5. Toronto Raptors (they are stacked, homie, stacked)
6. Milwaukee Bucks (They got RJeff, and I know this is high, but Luke Ridnour's a good PG, plus Michael Redd is healthy)
7. Miami Heat (YEEEEEA dawg, gotta have hope that Beasley will begin providing near the middle of the season)
8. Cleveland Cavaliers (they finally got a PG, but they're still the Cavs; LBJ can't carry them)

WEST

1. Los Angeles Lakers (Bynum healthy all year, LO as a 6th man? That's wealth)
2. New Orleans Hornets (CP3's the real deal, and he's got shooters and big men...)
3. Utah Jazz (their division is soft, so they get top spot)
4. San Antonio Spurs (same, steady Spurs)
5. Houston Rockets (Artest is gonna go crazy in H-town; Yao and McGrady will be out for at least 20 games each)
6. Los Angeles Clippers (They look reallllly good this year; imagine if Brand didn't lie)
7. Portland Trailblazers (it'll take too long for Oden to get adjusted to the NBA, but when he does, they'll go on a few 10-game tears)
8. Dallas Mavericks(not to be confused with McCain/Palin)

tlock 10-21-2008 01:08 AM

Lakers fan here, but not a big NBA fan so I won't try to predict the playoffs because I don't know/care enough about the other teams.

thermos 10-21-2008 11:09 AM

damn it...

I had this epic predictions post crafted with little summaries like yours Heat....and my damn PC crashed. I'm too lazy to retype it all.

I will say, that the above post by Tlock is typical of a Lakers fan ^^^.

Needless to say, I'm a Sixers nut and it's clouded my judgement - I have them winning the East and put the Pistons waay lower than you. I think they're cooked. Celtics will be okay....but the Posey loss is huge and Allen and Garnett HAVE to fall off in production. Pierce too. Their season was like the perfect culmination of every thing at once and I don't see it happening again. Plus, I still think Doc Rivers is a douche.

I don't think the JO trade will change things that much.....that fucker has been mailing it in the past couple years anyway. I hope Beasly is all that you want him to be.....it's an awesome pairing with Wade.

My West list was very similar tho. CP3 is the man. Ogden won't change to conference just yet.

beastley 10-21-2008 12:03 PM

i think u mean oden, and yeah i agree about jo, but hes in a much better situation now, torontos pretty stacked

Haha....damn, yah. I just finished booking a trip to Ogden, Utah this morning....haha. I hate when that happens.

I still haven't forgiven the NBA for the Seattle incident though. Ok. City Thunder? WTF is that?

The JO trade was actually pretty good for both teams (which rarely happens) but I just think he's a shell of his former self. Playing with Bosh should help....but it's insane that he's pulling down almost 20 mil per year. His numbers last year were terrible.

beastley 10-21-2008 12:15 PM

their bigs are pretty formidable, though.

bosh
o'neal
bargnani off the bench(good perimeter player)
jamario moon can play
and they picked up roy hibbert, who is strong fundamentally

i seriously think they have a really good roster

not to mention calderon at point and anthony parker(candace's brother) at sg/sf...kapono off the bench for instant 3s

Maybe or all the players are primadonnas and I prefer college hoops where pride is on the line.

beastley 10-21-2008 09:10 PM

im not sure about this, but...

are college players the ones who go on to play in the nba?

true, but they are playing to get into the NBA and the vast majority of college will not be drafted or considered for the nba. those players are playing for their school and pride.

imnotlistening2u 10-22-2008 02:14 AM

clippers fan here and was very disappointed to hear that Baron may need surgery on his hand that would keep him out for about a month. But a starting lineup of baron, eric gordon (even though I'm not sold on him yet, but cuttino is old as shit), al thornton, camby, and chris caveman is about as solid as we've ever had.

I'll put up my predictions a little bit later when I've got some time to go over the teams, but of course the Clippers are finishing first.

beastley 10-22-2008 11:31 PM

i dont have the clips making the playoffs, because lets be serious, even though some talent has moved east, the west seems to get stronger each year.

portland's fully healthy this yr, and the hornets are buzzing(sorry) and the lakers, spurs, rockets, etc just seem too good for the clips to get an edge in...

i dont even know if the mavs will make it. i surely dont see the suns getting in

imnotlistening2u 10-23-2008 01:11 AM

you've got em as your 6 seed in your predictions though. Now you're just backtracking. You're right about Portland, and all the buzz up here in the NW is really starting to make it feel like the Trailblazers are going to have a big year.

The clippers just need to beat 7 teams from the west, to get into the playoffs, and I'm pretty sure they can finish ahead of :

Sacramento (too young)
T-Wolves (waaay too young)
Thunder (too young, but KD, green, and russell could make them relevant soon)
Golden State (can that team hold it together without BD and monta out for a while?)
Memphis (getting closer)
Phoenix (too old)
Denver (underperformers of the century)

I don't see it at too unlikely of a scenario. And you're right about the West continuing to get stronger, but the Clips definitely did. Baron can play as well as any PG in the west.

I may be a little optimistic (and biased), but I need something to hold on to.

beastley 10-23-2008 08:18 AM

whoops, yeah ur right, i didnt even pay attn to my own rankings. i agree with my previous self and think they'll make the playoffs, haha. maybe i just felt like disagreeing with u, or maybe i was really tired. either way, my bad.

ur right about denver. that team is going nowhere fast.

beastley 10-23-2008 08:23 AM

ps. u gotta feel bad for melo(even though hes part of the problem). unlike wade and bron bron, he still hasn't made it even past the first round of the playoffs, and the nuggets dont even have a plan in place to rebuild at all. he looks destined to be a star on a shitty team as long as hes with denver

beastley 10-23-2008 08:59 AM

by the way, chris kaman is the creepiest player in the nba, hands down

imnotlistening2u 10-23-2008 09:53 AM

I agree with you about Melo all the way, He does so well in the international game and thrives even with all the other stars on the team, but in Denver he just can't seem to get his shit straight.

and Chris Kaman is definitely the creepiest player in the league. I agree 100%, but he has shown great improvement.

Your heat are definitely looking a lot better this year, good to see.

I dunno about Kaman.....are you speaking merely of his looks? I could see if your stoned he might mess with your head in a Sam Cassel kinda way.

But creepy in a quirky kinda way.....you gotta go with Gilbert. C'mon the dude travels with an oxygen tent and tickles Antawn's armpit before every game outta OCD like behavior. Gotta respect that.

Did you guys see his youtube clip where he shoots all those 3's (one handed) in a competition with Stevenson?

I've seen it and it's an awesome video.

Whenever I see Kaman all I can think of is a caveman and he just goes about everything real quietly, like a big, silent, 7-foot, caveman... that's not a little creepy?

Gilbert is a little quirky, though, i'll give you that. Although I'd never want Charlie Villanueva's hairless body anywhere near me

Haha.....you stoners are great....yes, when you put it like that, yes, he's creepy as fuck.

GREAT call on Villanueva too. And let us not forget the cookie monster (Dikembe) nor.

My man Dalembert is kinda gawky/creepy too.

You are definitely right we can't just leave out big dikembe.

And, If Sam Cassell ever looked at me for more than 5 minutes I would start to think his alien spaceship might be coming to get me.

Its so easy a caveman could do it!

beastley 10-23-2008 12:25 PM

yeah, speaking of villanueva, tell me u wouldnt be scared seeing this thing at a club?

beastley 10-23-2008 10:19 PM

im posting this in the fantasy sports thread, too, but if ur interested in fantasy bball, pm me your yahoo fantasy profile and ill send u the info....im not setting up a specific dsf one, but i have my own league set up

imnotlistening2u 10-28-2008 06:57 PM

It STARTS today!!! yeaaaa about time.

Got 3 games today: Celts vs. Bron Bron, Bulls and Bucks, and Lakers vs the Trailblazers.

I'm taking the Lakers at home, BronBron at the garden, and the Bulls.

Although my team doesnt start until tomorrow, any hoops is good hoops (although I can't wait for college basketball, much more so than the NBA, but whatever)

beastley 10-28-2008 08:18 PM

who u got in college ball? ill start that thread too soon....

the heat tip off tomorrow against the knicks..gotta start off with a W against those fuckers; its really too bad the rivalry has deteriorated so low. their roster is so fluid that its hard to build a decent feud or anything...

imnotlistening2u 10-28-2008 08:24 PM

At least you get to start off against a shitty team like the Knicks. My Clippers gotta face the Lakers, at least they'll be used to the rims.

I got my Zags in college basketball. It's going to be a good year. I won't even ask your team.

because its obvious or..?

imnotlistening2u 10-28-2008 08:35 PM

Yes, because I know it's Florida... Not because I'm a cold hearted douche bag who does not care about anyone else.

sorry for the confusion. :)

beastley 10-28-2008 08:39 PM

whatever, im not gonna listen to u anyway/..

beastley 10-28-2008 08:40 PM

hahahaha that would be an interesting test.

ps. i'm surprised no one has made the comeback you did about my SN, but alas it had to happen. well played.

back to the subject at hand. I think the top two rookie of the year contenders very well could be from the same team. I could easily see Rudy Fernandez and Oden go 1 and 2, respectively, in the voting. That's right, you heard it here, Rudy Fernandez = ROY

ocdude 11-05-2008 11:09 AM

ROY and some other BS

rudy fernandez ROY? you guys must be stupid..for someone like that who comes off the bench to win is absurd..im takin the obvious pick, d rose. greg oden is not gonna be healthy enough to play a full season. if fernandez were to start i'd give him serious consideration based on how he played in the olympics.

how about some smack talk..i think my lakers and hornets will be the last two standing in the west, and if you guys care to disagree give me some valid reasons. in the east i think the raptors cavs magic and of course boston will be there at the end. i need to see the sixers play a bit more till i judge them, but so far they are lookin good.

mvp= chris paul or kobe bryant
def player= dwight howard
6th man=lamar odom

beastley 11-05-2008 11:25 AM

YOUR lakers and hornets?

let me guess, you've always loved the hornets, even when they had Baron Davis...scratch that, muggsy?

ocdude 11-05-2008 12:05 PM

just the lakers.

beastley 11-13-2008 12:19 PM

How about that Rockets-Suns baby brawl last night?

I thought it was hilarious how Shaq just got in and pushed a bunch of people around, the Big Push

danieldamone 12-05-2008 08:13 PM

I just had to retreat from a chat room beside my streaming lakers game. they were all mad at me cause i didn't understand why the wizards jerseys said "zephyrs". my bad.....

beastley 12-06-2008 12:12 AM

it said zephyrs because the nba likes to make up bullshit reasons to sell extra jerseys.

ie having a replica, a swingman, an authentic, a replithentic, and whatever else the fuck kind of jersey to sell.

theres really no aesthetic or athletic value to having players play in jerseys with embroidered numbers or letters, but the value to being able to charge more is what the nba and nfl and shit love.

back in the day, im positiv they didnt play with embroidered jerseys.

cocksuckers

danieldamone 12-09-2008 08:42 PM

Lake Show baby! Any predictions tonight.? the Kings havent been looking good...at all...but at the same time, the Lakers are being a little inconsistant in the latter half of the games....

beastley 12-09-2008 11:51 PM

well sac's keeping it close...not watching it, but looks like a good game

danieldamone 12-09-2008 11:53 PM

SHIT! Why don't the lakers know how to play defense! it's soooo infuriating! This is the Kings! The Kings Aren't Good! Argh.
