Trip to Maine... redux

Here we go again... pictures from my trip to Maine for my birthday that may or may not have happened depending on whether you use a Julian calendar or a Satanic666 calendar.

The bridge into Maine (you can see the Maine state line and sign on the far side of the bridge).

MaineCoast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, Maine, where I was born on 9 october 1975 at 0432.

Driving down 186 entering Winter Harbor.

The house I lived in for most of my first three years of life. The door on the right is the door into "our" house and the window above the window to the right of the door was "my" room. (Note that the Navy owned the house in those days.)

The Winter Harbor food service. From my understanding from my parents, this building looks exactly the same as it did when we moved away in 1979 except they added an IGA sign.

An array of lobstah buoys on a garage. Each lobstahman uses his own color scheme on the buoy to distinguish his traps from those of other lobstahman. These traps are thrown into and pulled from the water by hand still.

The post office in Winter Harbor. My understanding is that they still don't deliver mail and you have to come get it from the post office.

The Winter Harbor Fire Department.

Sign when entering Winter Harbor from Prospect Harbor/Corea.

Sign near the Stinson family cannery, the last sardine cannery in the US when it was shut down in April 2010.

Ellsworth City Hall.

Several pictures of the water around Schoodic Point. Included are several views of Cadillac Mountain on the opposite side of the harbor (near Bar Harbor). Cadillac Mountain (elev. 1523 feet) is the first point in the US where you can see the sun rise.

One last lobstah boat out collecting traps as the sun runs away.

Collection of lobstah traps ready for the next day. Note how far out the tide is at this point.

Lobstah boats tied to their piers. They have to tie up further out and take a canoe or dinghy to shore.

Lobstah boats tied out. Another view of "low tide."

Building 85, where my dad worked while stationed in Maine. It's a secure communications building, so no windows. Looks like something out of a CIA experiment to me.

Some views of the foliage and signage I saw in Maine (and NH) that caught my eye.

"Open Sundays" LOL. The south would have a massive coronary. Can't even buy beer/wine in SC on Sundays.

This sign has nothing to do with my ex-wife.

Finally, a video I shot with my Droid (also took all the pictures above except the moose crossing pic) that I've uploaded to YouTube of the waves at Schoodic Point.

It does my heart good to see the home land. Cheers, and thanks for the pics!

Who the fuck are you?

I'm just a dude that grew up in Brewer, Maine, an hour or so inland from Winter Harbor.
