GNR wasn't a great band, but they had some great songs, and the musicians in the band (other than that flaming dickhole Axl Rose) were all very talented. I was very saddened when I learned that Slash didn't really exist earlier this year.

I still get ramped up every time "Welcome to the Jungle" and Paradise City" are playing. How can you not?

They were the kick in the teeth that rock needed at the time . It felt like they came right out of the gutter . I saw them a few times before UYI 1&2 came out ---you never knew what you were going to get at a show. It was always a different set list and it felt raw and organic .

Musically, it was the rhythm section that really did it for me. They were able to have a kick-ass lead guitarist playing great riffs *and* fantastic rhythm guitar that (dovetailing with the bass and drums) really propelled the songs.
