Favorite Opening Scene in a Movie
 

A friend and I were trying to compile a list and all I can think of off the top of my head is The Godfather. Any ideas?

well, I actually put some thought into it...see...Th Parkbench forum has become a music and movie forum, and there's a music discussion section in it, but not a movie discussion thread. I considered putting in the general discussion forum, but it seemed more appropriate in a sub forum of this one. I may be wrong. I could have misplaced it.

EVERY SINGLE STAR WARS MOVIE! and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre *the original one!*

Casino Royale has the cool factor, but Saving Private Ryan was just epic awesome.

By no means my favourite movie, but as an opening scene Swordfish comes to mind first. I second Magnolia though its really great and I love the soundtrack too by Aimee Mann.

I dont know about opening scenes, but I just watched the bank robbery scene in HEAT and it is fucking fantastic.

By far the greatest opening scene in a movie has to be for Full Metal Jacket.

Hands down the opening scene from Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. It really gets across the drug like power of the ring beautifully. I think that this scene is why it won the Oscar.

Can't believe it's not listed, one of the greatest opening scenes is from 'Way of the Gun'. Maybe it's not mentioned because everything after that first 3 minutes blows.

To add to it's greatness. The director's commentary claims it's based on a true story.
