I must be getting old
School shopping....I take my son to Hibbett's to get him some shoes....since when were Nike shoes not good enough anymore? Ended up driving all over the place for "DC" shoes because Hibbett's didn't carry them...actually I shouldn't complain...they were cheaper...
|
Hahah... Wait til your daughter starts complimenting your clothes because they're "So retro." Effing shoot me now. Damn kids.
|
yeah, Nike stopped being cool about 5 years ago. skaters are the cool people nowadays, not athletes.
|
Yeah skater/surfer is the "in" look for all non-athletes

Maybe athletes secretly want to be surfers/skaters now because it's cool??????

I haven't skated in years now, but I still snowboard. The surfer/skater look is in because it combines comfort of a sports jersey with the style of someone who is gay. It's a happy median.

I have an 8 yr old nephew, who won't wear clothes, unless they are black, and have skulls/skulls and crossbones on them. I told my sister she better pray he doesn't turn into an emo(just kidding) Now,he wants a mohawk..... |

i've had the same pair of Doc's for about 10 years. my kid just stole them because they already look "broken in"...works out good for me. i get a new pair.
|
My younger brother who's 22 ALWAYs wore skater shoes growing up even though he wasn't. I always thought they made him look like a tool. I'm still a nike guy, but I also don't mind rocking three stripes and a shell toe baby!

I'm just saying...I wanted Nikes as a kid because of the MJ-Mars Blackman commercials...and Nike is EVERYWHERE today...almost every other commercial, but when my son said he wanted DCs I had no idea what the hell he was talking about, but the salesman at Hibbett's did, cause he said they didn't sell them...hence the start of this thread....AM I GETTING THAT FUCKING OLD?????

You can do what my dad did for me years ago. He said, "This is what I'm paying for. If you don't like it and want something else, make your own money and buy your own clothes."
I did the same for my son (just graduated) and daughter (going into 9th). It's scary how many kids I saw in the High School I taught at wearing $300 shoes, but couldn't afford lunch. And not just one pair of shoes. NOOO, they had like 5 or 6 different pairs A YEAR!. I won't even get started on the rest of their clothes. But, I don't know, you'd think with all the money they spend on clothes, they'd buy at least one COAT for Winter! |

Rob Dyrdek and his show "Rob & Big" 3. Ryan Sheckler and his show "Life of Ryan" Skaters are finally at the point where they can make millions of dollars and now that they are driving Range Rovers and shit, other kids think they are cool. I love Rob & Big :p
That show is hilarious! But yeah, Rob Dyrdek is sponsored by DC and almost always wears a DC shirt and hat in every episode. ![]() |

Well the main thing is NIKE will make money and it goes to their huge corporation which supports other athletes.
Any rider owned companies DC, Etnies, Orchid, Lotek, DVS, Adio - THEY put all the money back into the sport. If you buy NIKE your money goes to Nike and probably pays some millionaire basketball player or something. And seriously, Nike has held 2 jams in the last year with no prize money! They are a multi billion dollar corporation. Other rider owned companies do way more than Nike does. Sure Nike sponsors athletes but do you think that anyone would ride for them if you only got shoe flow?? Fuck that! The main issue is the taking of money from sk8/BMX and not putting it back into the sk8/BMX community. . |

Thats all i would ever buy but the discontinued them. ![]() |

OK then...now explain why the laces don't need to be tied..(RunDMC style)...my son plays sports...and I buy shoes for that...but these BIG SHOES with the laces loose...I don't like it....

Content, Pictures and Download links visible to registered users only. yes true about the other companies actually - Orchid and Lotek stay true but Etnies and Adio and the others are really huge companies but for the most part the money doesn't go outside of the realm of alternative sports (or Extreme sports but i hate that term). DC made a huge skate plaza which i'm sure prolly cost at least $350,000. Time will tell if NIKE will start putting real money into the sport. They prolly will. About NIKE flow. What I meant was that nobody would ride for NIKE for flow IF they could ride for another company and get paid, so NIKE really has to pay. Sorry i didnt make that thought very clear. Code:

NIKE is so fucking huge that they should put on a DEW TOUR or a comp with big money prizes like LG or Redbull.
Morgan Wade won 1st place at the LG contest last year and took home a check for $30,000. If Nike held a comp they could give away so much money and it would be sure to be televised which would be great publicity too. On another note about getting old Shasta. Does your son wear skinny jeans or baggy jeans? There are basically 2 camps right now. Skinny jeans and fitted shirts and kids who wear baggy jeans and x-large shirts. If your son wears skinny jeans he might start using a shoelaces as a belt. I refuse to do it but that's the latest trend. Just thought you should know just in case he falls into the skinny jeans category. :D |
Just hope he doesn't start asking to shop at the GAP to buy girl's jeans. That's only one of the worst trends ever.
