Rapidshit takes another step backward
Basically, if you are paid/premium user with a lot of files, you will now be treated like a guest user.
On October 20, premium users with over 25mb hosted will have files that have not been dl'd in 90 days deleted. One of the main reasons for maintaining a premium account is to ensure that the files will be there. Probably won't be maintaining RS and MU accounts much longer.. |

I've already trimmed a few that I didn't care about and hadn't been accessed for months. edit - and besides, I'm through posting for the mess a bitches in Park Bench. |
Fine by you but shit for me - I have 2 RS acconts to the limit and I guess they want another. The long term integrity of my music files is very important to me whether someone DLs them or not. I will probably look into some online storage options that charge.a yearly fee.

For pure backup/archive, I tested Carbonite for non-shares, and it seemed cheap (55/yr.) and limitless.

So much for renewing my account. I've been setting up my files now for a few days from other online accounts to put on rapidshare, what a waste of time
This will also compromise all past files, so if you're now searching something that's older or not well known you're even more screwed then when you started because those files will be gone likely :( I really loved this part of their email- Code:

Theoretically all we need is server space, with some decent bandwidth. I did that for a while and hosted it in Sweden to avoid a legal ass raping.

I don't host much. I use it mainly for downloading, which is already fucked with their 2.5GB per day limit. If you want more you gotta pay $10 more dollars for an extra 100GB of traffic share to dip into. That's fucking gay.
But hey, damn near everyone on the planet uses rapidshare, until someone comes up with a better service that more people will use, I'm gonna keep on using it, solely because there's no better option |
You can't delete after carbonite backs your files up though. I don't remember if it's one or two weeks but when carbonite checks again for the files and they're not on your HD, it gets removed from your backup file.
I have been preaching Carbonite for the last couple months on DSF because it's perfect if your personal computer shits the bed but it is NOT an external HD. Code:

^^^That may not be the most efficient system for file sharing ever devised...

Dear Customer,
we hereby inform you of a modification regarding the file inactivity regulations for Collector's accounts. The guaranteed storage time of a file after the last download (or after the upload, if a file has never been downloaded) will be lowered to 60 days on January 1st, 2010. Please note that Premium accounts whose files use more than 50 GB of storage are subject to the same storage rules as Collector's accounts. If you do not agree to the Terms of Use, you are entitled to cancel the contractual relationship within a time limit of four weeks as of receipt of this notification. Should you not make use of your right of cancellation, the alterations are presumed to be accepted and become an effective integral part of the contract. Best regards, Support Team RapidShare AG Gewerbestrasse 6 6330 Cham Switzerland It just keeps getting better. |

I'm kinda diggin' Megaupload since I followed GF there.
Down speeds are definitely better. Up speed still sucks. Don't like that I can't see the file name in the link. Point rewards don't look great, but none of this storage shit that I can see. Damn asians beating the krauts again by knocking off their shit. |
