I always go for the local stuff. Starbucks is last resort only! But the money I'm spending for drinks is out of hand. I'm gonna check these out.

I saw the interview with the founder of Starbucks talking about how he got his inspiration in Italy. Well I've been to those places in Italy and Starbucks only resembles those places in that you can get caffeine.

The espresso bars in Italy are places of community. You get a shot or two at a bar. You don't get big cups to go. You talk with your mates about what's goin on. It's a hang-out like the tavern on the way home, or the great diner you pop in to for lunch. Starbucks is either get the "fuck out the door as fast as possible", or "go sit at the little 2 person tables where you won't dare make eye contact with the next customer." It's all very sterile and anti-social. And don't forget to buy the latest crappy CD they're pitching!
