There are multiple mechanisms that cause the gout attacks, and the most common one occurs in older adults, but I was lucky enough to have one of the more rare forms. In fact, my rheumatologist hasn't confirmed my diagnosis since my chem levels aren't far out of the normal ranges, especially for the severity of the attacks I have. The treatment is somewhat effective, although I am on fairly high doses and they only have a marginal effect. I have attacks once a year now, vs. once a month or so, as before.
By the way, I realize that was an old man shot, but I decided to give you a serious answer for once!
