'Thanks, you little f*****': Family horrified after restaurant bill makes clear what waiters thought of Molly, two.

Most parents have experienced their young children getting restless when waiting for a meal in a restaurant.
But not many get the bill at the end of it with a message describing their offspring as a 'little f*****'.

This is what happened to parents Craig and Kimberley Cartin at a Mexican restaurant in Halifax, West Yorkshire, where they received the receipt which had 'Thankyyou littell f*****' written on it.

Visiting the brand new eaterie, called Cactus Joe's, on its opening weekend the family had already been frustrated by slow service and poor food, which caused hungry two-year-old Molly to complain.

The couple believe her mild protests triggered the shocking comment - despite being seated in the advertised 'kids' zone'.

Fuming Craig, a 34-year-old administrator, said: 'I couldn't believe my eyes. The meal was indifferent anyway but to be abused on the bill is unbelievably offensive.

'I consider myself a fairly easy-going guy but this was too much, it's awful behaviour.
'Molly was a bit grumbly, a bit moany, but her behaviour certainly wasn't terrible - so this was just uncalled for. Presumably they meant to delete it before printing but it's still no excuse.'

Kimberley, 25, who was also with one-year-old daughter Megan at the time, described how the family had to wait a long time for their meal and then the offensive bill.

She said: 'It was really quiet when we were in there.
'But somehow they still managed to take that long to serve us and after about 20 minutes, Molly started to get restless and a bit impatient.
'She wanted to get up and walk around but we wouldn't let her so she had a little tantrum.
'When we asked for the bill there was another long wait so I went up to pay at the counter and that is when I saw the swear word on the bill.
'I couldn't believe it. The woman looked really embarrassed and the manager apologised but I could still see people whispering and sniggering.

'It's out of order.'

Restaurant owner Steve Ryan apologised for the message and said the member of staff responsible, believed to be a 29-year-old manageress, had been sacked.

He said: 'This was absolutely inexcusable and it won't be tolerated. The person involved has been sacked and I am planning on consulting my lawyers to see if I can take further action against her.
'I have visited the customer involved and invited him to be our guest this weekend. We offer unreserved apologies.'

The incident rounds off a torrid first fortnight for the restaurant.

After opening on August 28 it had to close again just days later because the gas supply was inadequate causing dozens of cancellations.
Kimberley said she and Craig turned down the restaurant's offer to be their guest.

PARIS (Reuters) ? A drunk French teenager narrowly escaped death on Sunday after falling asleep on a railway track and slumbering undisturbed as a high-speed train roared over him, police said.

The 19-year old, whose name was not released, remained fast asleep face down on a stretch of track near Saint Nolff in southern Brittany, as the Quimper to Paris train passed, leaving only a few grease stains on the back of his jacket.

The driver saw the body lying on the tracks and slammed on the brakes, but was only able to stop a few hundred meters further on.

"It was his unconscious state that saved him really, as he lay there completely still like a dead body," said a spokesman for the local police force, adding that the clearance under the train is only around 20 centimeters.

According to the spokesman, the teenager was making his way back from the Saint Nolff music festival when he stopped to take a nap on the railway line.

Roused by police and fire fighters who attended the scene, the young man gave a one-fingered salute before rolling over and going back to sleep.

He was subsequently transferred to a nearby hospital where police say he is still recovering from his alcohol binge.

"He's not really aware of what happened," said the police spokesman.

The customer wasn't supposed to see it, and don't get me wrong the waiter belongs in the "people who need to be punched in the head" thread. I think that part with the little fucker was funny and if he should be fired it should be over the making people wait too long part. That I can agree with.

The only difference between me and those people is I would have walked out long before. I often do that if I don't get waited on promptly.

I walk out when deserving and then call the restaurant the next day to speak to the owner. Forget the manager, he's the one who let the shit happen in the first place. I ask to meet the owner at his restaurant with the employee and just go to fucking town!!!!

I'm not looking for a free meal or an apology. I am looking to only abuse and humiliate the owner and his business to the degree that I arbitrarily deem appropriate.

I couldn't fucking care less about his business at this point. If he was stupid enough to hire a manager who would hire an employee with such horrible customer service skills then he deserves to have as much of his business taken away from him.

In this particular case, a decent manager would have taken care of this before I left the establishment after I told the waiter/waitress that I am refusing to pay unless the manager AND the owner magically appear before me together within 20 minutes to resolve this.

I've done it before and I know I'll do it again.

I've had people crawl up my ass after I have apologized, thanked them for letting me know that I have a problem and comped their meal. Usually, if they won't stop I will then say "At this point I am not sure what else I can do but sense it seems to make you happy to continue to berate me I will stand here and you can work off your anger until you feel better." That usually makes the fuckers shut up. I get it we fucked up. It sucks. I fucking slave away at my business to make everything as fantastic as possible, but we fuck up, and then I make it right. When people get on a rock about it and take it way past where it needs to go, I won't just sit there and take their shit. This isn't McDonalds fuckstick, and I'm sorry that you have a small penis, just got fired, broke up with your wife, or just generally have an attitude, but enough is enough.

Having said that, this example is a case of employees taking a joke too far and being too stupid to catch their "joke" before it hit the customer. They deserved to be fired then and there. Openings are always goatfucks and if you can't handle the job, GTFO. Just like DSF :)

Hopefully this is the first and last time bcause if it has been happening even twice that night, they may have to close their doors.

Here on the East Coast, we're all major assholes when it comes to perfection at good restaurants. I'm not saying that your food is not excellent since I have never eaten at your place but I can definately speak for the attitudes in Connecticut at least.

That shit wouldn't fly with me and has not happened in my place, nor would it (At least I hope not.) That sort of performance deserves all the debasement and abuse possible.

I was more referring to the general attitude of arbitrary abuse due to dissatisfaction. People in general are assholes regarding perfection at good restaurants. Yelp and the like give better aggregate reviews to restaurants around me with mediocre food and drink because the expectation is so low there. My place has a built in expectation so when we do not exceed it or make an error that is real or perceived we get trashed. That is why I am so hard on my staff and myself.

I try to ensure everything is perfect, but mistakes happen. I will not put up with abuse for no reason though.

U.S. Kills Top Qaeda Militant in Southern Somalia
 

NAIROBI, Kenya ? American commandos killed one of the most wanted Islamic militants in Africa in a daylight raid in southern Somalia on Monday, according to American and Somali officials, an indication of the Obama administration?s willingness to use combat troops strategically against Al Qaeda?s growing influence in the region.

Western intelligence agents have described the militant, Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan, as the ringleader of a Qaeda cell in Kenya responsible for the bombing of an Israeli hotel on the Kenyan coast in 2002. Mr. Nabhan may have also played a role in the attacks on two American embassies in East Africa in 1998.

American military forces have been hunting him for years, and on Monday, around 1 p.m., villagers near the town of Baraawe said four military helicopters suddenly materialized over the horizon and shot at two trucks rumbling through the desert.

The trucks were carrying leaders of the Shabab, an Islamist extremist group fighting to overthrow Somalia?s weak but internationally recognized government. The Shabab work hand-in-hand with foreign terrorists, according to Western and Somali agents, and in the past few months, as the battle for control of Somalia has intensified, the group seems to be drawing increasingly close to Al Qaeda.

American officials on Monday provided few details, but confirmed that Special Operations forces, operating from a nearby American warship, participated in the helicopter raid.

Under the administration of President George W. Bush, the American military used long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles and AC-130 gunships to carry out strikes against terrorism suspects in Somalia. One American adviser said the decision to use commandos and not long-range missiles in this case may reflect a shift by the Obama administration to go to greater lengths to avoid civilian deaths. In the past, many Somali villagers have been killed by American missiles.

But urgency was a major, if not overriding, factor as well. A senior American military official said the Special Operations forces, who had kept Mr. Nabhan under lengthy surveillance waiting for the right moment to strike, acted quickly after tracking Mr. Nabhan to a location away from civilians on Monday. ?We have been watching him for a long, long time,? said the military official.

Despite the danger of conducting the mission during the day, the strategy ensured that the troops could more accurately identify their target, attack it and confirm the deaths afterward. ?This approach was, ?Let?s do it very quickly, very swiftly and confirm he?s gone,? ? the adviser said.

Mr. Nabhan played an increasingly important role as a senior instructor for new militant recruits, including some Americans, as well as a liaison to senior Qaeda leaders in Pakistan, the senior American adviser said.

?This is very significant because it takes away a person who?s been a main conduit between the East Africa extremists and big Al Qaeda,? said the adviser, who like several United States officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the classified nature of the mission.

The helicopters, with commandos firing .50-caliber machine guns and other automatic weapons, quickly disabled the trucks, according to villagers in the area, and several of the Shabab fighters tried to fire back. Shabab leaders said that six foreign fighters, including Mr. Nabhan, were quickly killed, along with three Somali Shabab. The helicopters landed, and the commandos inspected the wreckage and carried away the bodies of Mr. Nabhan and the other fighters for identification, a senior American military official said.

?We are very upset, very upset,? said a Shabab official from the town of Merka, near where the raid happened. ?This is a big loss for us.?

Mr. Nabhan, who was thought to be around 30 years old and of Yemeni descent, was born in Mombasa, on Kenya?s coast. American intelligence sources have said that he masterminded the suicide bombing of the Paradise hotel in Mombasa, which killed 11 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and wounded dozens of others.

The Paradise was a popular Israeli hangout, complete with a kosher restaurant and synagogue. That same day, Nov. 28, 2002, a group of assailants fired several missiles at an Israeli passenger jet at the Mombasa airport, narrowly missing it. Intelligence agents said Mr. Nabhan helped fire the missiles.

Mr. Nabhan was one of the handful of Qaeda terrorists hiding out in Somalia for years, taking advantage of the country?s chaos to elude agents pursuing them.

Mr. Nabhan was believed to be a close associate of Fazul Abdullah Mohamed, Al Qaeda?s East Africa operations chief, who helped organize the bombings of the American Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998, which killed more than 200 people. American military forces have tried to kill Mr. Nabhan and Mr. Mohamed with airstrikes several times in recent years.

The Baraawe area, like much of southern Somalia, is controlled by the Shabab. There is increasing evidence that foreign jihadists, like Mr. Nabhan, are leading Somali Shabab and training them in suicide bombs.

American officials said Mr. Nabhan?s death is likely to send other suspects scurrying for cover. When they resurface, there may be killings of those suspected of being informants, sowing further turmoil in their ranks, American officials said.

Escaped killer still at large in Washington state

(CNN) -- A legally insane killer was on the loose in the state of Washington on Saturday, two days after he escaped during a field trip to a county fair, authorities said.
Phillip Paul was able to elude a massive manhunt in Spokane County, Washington, after escaping on Thursday, a spokesman for the sheriff's department said.

Though Paul had been confined in a mental institution because of a murder confession, he was allowed to be part of a trip to a county fair Thursday.

Paul, 47, escaped from the fair around noon, which launched the massive manhunt and brought criticism from many, including state government officials. Sheriff's officials told CNN affiliate KREM-TV that Paul also escaped briefly in 1991 and assaulted a law enforcement officer.

A review has been launched on the incident along with the policy that allows patients to take trips, said Susan Dreyfus, secretary of the state's Department of Social and Health Services.

Dreyfus said she was concerned about Paul's escape and another recent brief escape by a patient at a different local mental facility.

"These incidents, separate and coincidental, have raised serious questions about the security readiness of our two state psychiatric hospitals," Dreyfus said.

Paul was committed to Eastern State Hospital after admitting he strangled and slit the throat of community activist Ruth Motley in 1987, KREM-TV reported. According to court documents obtained by KREM, Paul believed Motley was a witch and killed her in response to voices in his head.

He subsequently burned a deer carcass as a sacrifice, according the documents.

The extent of Paul's illness was disturbing even to mental health professionals, KREM reported.

"He's the only paranoid schizophrenic -- I've seen hundreds, maybe thousands of them -- that frightened me," Dr. Frank Hardy, a licensed psychiatrist, says in one of the documents, according to KREM. "The first time I took one look at him -- and I've never done this before or since -- I asked the jailer to remain in the room while I examined him.

"I believe he would respond to his delusions and his voices again" if released, Hardy wrote.

But Paul "Coyote" Neumann, a disc jockey at Spokane radio station Kix 96-FM, has an entirely different view of the escapee. Neumann has known Paul for 12 years through volunteering at the hospital and correspondence by mail.

Paul is a talented artist, Neumann told KREM-TV.

"I was just amazed by his ability. I always took him as a savant," Neumann said. "I never knew that he had murdered somebody until three or four or five years later."

Neumann described Paul as a "gentle soul."

"I've never seen him raise his voice; I've never seen him get frustrated; I've never seen nothing but kindness from him," he told KREM.

"I get mixed emotions because I do see the sweet, softer side of this individual, but I've never seen him unsupervised, I've never seen him not medicated," Neumann said. "But that's not to say in another 12, 15, 20 hours without those medications that he doesn't revert to those demons."

Duo admit 70-mile golf buggy bid


Two men have been fined for taking a golf buggy onto the A75 road in a bid to make the 70-mile journey home from Portpatrick to Dumfries.

They travelled on the road for about an hour at a top speed of 15mph before being stopped by police.

Stranraer Sheriff Court was told the two men from Dumfries had committed an "extremely foolish offence".

A police spokesman said the possibility of a crash between the buggy and a lorry did "not bear thinking about".

Robert Watt, 21, and Mark Gillespie, 25, both from Dumfries, were spotted at about 2335 BST on 10 June in the buggy on the A77 near Portpatrick, in south west Scotland.


Police were contacted and the pair were eventually stopped about an hour later on the A75, having travelled about 15 miles to Dervaird near Glenluce.

Gillespie was driving the buggy and was almost three times over the drink limit.

The vehicle had also been travelling without using lights.

Watt admitted stealing the buggy from Lagganmore Golf Club while Gillespie pled guilty to dangerous driving, drink driving and driving without a licence and insurance.

Defending Gillespie, lawyer Arnold Brazenall said that although it was an "amusing episode" his client now accepted that the consequences could have been very serious.

Paul Feeney, representing Watt, said the pair had been working in the Portpatrick area and needed to get back to Dumfries.

Watt had devised the scheme to get home but in the cold light of day it was "beyond them" how they had expected it to succeed.

Sheriff David Hall said that it was an extremely foolish offence where drink had clearly played a part.

Gillespie was fined a total of ?525, banned from driving for three years and ordered to sit an extended re-test.

Watt was fined ?150 for the theft of the buggy.

Commenting on the case, a spokesman for Lagganmore Golf Club said: "The maximum speed of the golf buggy would have been about 15mph.

"What they did was absolute lunacy and they are lucky that they were not killed.

"I think they were like ET, just trying to get home."

Sgt Paul Dodds, of the Galloway Roads Policing Unit, said it was "one of the most unusual incidents" he had ever dealt with.

"I am sure everyone who saw it struggled to believe their eyes when they saw a golf buggy being driven on the main A75 roadway," he said.

He said their incredulity must have been increased "as it was being driven at night with no lights on and being passed by large goods vehicles".

He added: "What is more concerning is the fact that those involved were drunk and it is clear that they showed no consideration for the safety of others or themselves.

"An accident between a golf buggy and an articulated lorry does not bear thinking about."

'Flammable' bras hold back Swedish female conscripts'

The bras issued to Swedish female military conscripts easily catch fire and are prone to coming undone, making them inappropriate for the battlefield, claims a conscripts? rights group.

The lack of combat-ready underwear for Sweden?s women in uniform has been a continuing sore point for the Swedish Conscription Council (V?rnplikstr?det).

?Our opinion is that the Swedish Armed Forces should have ordered good, flame-proof underwear,? Council spokesperson Paulina Rehbinder told The Local.

?There should be suitable apparel for women.?

The poor quality of the standard-issue sports bras prompted a group by female soldiers at the LV 6 military base in Halmstad to voice their displeasure to representatives from the Council recently.

The women complained that the bras? fasteners have a tendency to come undone when the women performed rigorous exercise, forcing the female soldiers to take off all of their equipment in order to refasten the brassieres.

In addition, the bras aren?t flame resistant and, once lit, can melt onto conscripts? skin, the G?teborgs-Posten (GP) newspaper reports.

The Council?s Rehbinder accuses Sweden?s military establishment of dragging its feet on the issue.

"It has not been a priority for the higher ups because women make up only around five percent of the Swedish armed forces," Rebinder said, adding that the problem of suitable clothing for Sweden?s female soldiers has existed for more than two decades.

But she hopes a fresh batch of Swedish military recruits may help press the issue with the Armed Forces? top brass.

"Earlier this year the National Service Administration (Pliktverket) informed them that around 2,000 female recruits were due to enter the service next year. That got them moving,? she said.

Trucker flips his rig after masturbating while driving

A German trucker suspected of driving under the influence of drugs crashed his vehicle near Bor?s in western Sweden on Tuesday. He subsequently admitted to masturbating at the time of the accident.

The trucker, apparently unable to reach a satisfactory climax, then proceeded to continue to pleasure himself while in the midst of a police interrogation, according to the local Bor?s Tidning newspaper.

"He was masturbating while the police interrogated him," police prosecutor ?sa Askenb?ck told the newspaper.

"He has admitted that he was not paying full attention at the time of the accident. He was playing with himself instead of focusing on the road."

The truck driver was en route from Gothenburg to Bor?s at around 4am on Tuesday morning. The truck and trailer flipped over when he rammed his vehicle into the central division on route 40 south of Bor?s.

The upturned vehicle blocked all traffic towards Gothenburg and one lane was closed in the direction of Bor?s.

The man remained in the vehicle with his hands apparently still clasped around his own gear stick and was subsequently arrested for reckless driving and driving while under the influence of drugs.

The suspicions against the man have now been extended to sexual molestation.

The German trucker, who is in his thirties, has admitted all of the charges directed against him.

Secret Service investigating Facebook poll on Obama

(CNN) -- The social networking site Facebook on Monday pulled a third-party application that allows users to create polls after a site member built a poll asking if President Obama should be killed.

The U.S. Secret Service, the agency assigned to protect the president, has launched an investigation, agency spokesman James Mackin said.

"As is usually the case, our vigilant users reported it to us first," Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt told CNN. "The USSS [Secret Service] sent us an e-mail late this morning PDT asking us to take it down. At that point, it had already been removed, and we let them know."

Schnitt said the application "was immediately suspended while the inappropriate content could be removed by the developer and until such time as the developer institutes better procedures to monitor their user-generated content."

Facebook allows third-party developers to create applications -- such as polls and quizzes -- which are then made available to Facebook users, who use the applications to create specific content. Users may choose to make their content available to the general population of Facebook or limit it only to their friends.

In this case, Schnitt said, the user made the poll asking whether Obama should be killed available to the general public.

The possible responses to the poll were "yes," "maybe," "if he cuts my health care" and "no."

Schnitt said the poll "appears to have been posted over the weekend."

In the world area, Palin would be destroyed by other female leaders like Merkel, Bachelet, Halonen, or even Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia. If Chavez challenged her in a U. N. debate, I'll take a deep bet she'll end up with tears.

This is the hard lesson some students at Fenger High School have to deal with after a day of learning. For them it's a hard lesson of reality on the streets.

Thursday after school, two rival gangs got into a fight three blocks from the high school.

In all four students were beaten in that melee -- one was released from the hospital Friday morning.

While police continue their investigation, some students say they don't want to go back to Fenger next week.

Rival gang members have been fighting for a month -- and each time one of their fellow classmates is injured.

No knives and no guns were used in Thursday's fight. Just fists, feet and boards.

Derrion Albert, 16, was struck in the head by one of those boards.

Seconds later the honor student hit the pavement. That?s when witnesses, who are other high school students, say gangbangers began stomping on and punching Albert.

Derrion Albert's mom said witnesses told her he was "trying to help another student and kind of got mixed in with the crowd of the fight and he was hit.?

A senior who witnessed the whole thing says the melee lasted less than five minutes.

The video shows students and workers from a nearby community center rescue the boy -- but many out there knew it was too late.

Surveillance videos are mounted on businesses in the Roseland area, but Chicago Police say those don't show faces.

Police have a copy of this footage and it may help identify Albert's killers.

But while that investigation goes on, students say they will remember Derrion Albert as a good kid. A quiet, smart kid with no gang affiliation. But just a kid who may not have had enough street smarts to go another way.

NEW YORK ? New York's iconic Empire State Building will light up red and yellow Wednesday in honor of the 60th anniversary of communist China.

The Chinese consul, Peng Keyu, and other officials will take part in the lighting ceremony which will bathe the skyscraper in the colors of the People's Republic until Thursday, Empire State Building representatives said in a statement.

The upper sections of the building are regularly illuminated to mark special occasions, ranging from all blue to mark "Old Blue Eyes" Frank Sinatra's death in 1998 to green for the annual Saint Patrick's Day.
