Hey MD....I dont think the general public on this side feels it as much as the people who live in Juarez. I don't think a majority of people (that i know, anyway) are crossing as freely as they used to. You have to take extra precautions if you plan on going over there, which no one in their right mind would. A few weeks ago there were 24 killings in a day. And they are now starting to pick off people in the government. Just recently they (the cartels) put up signs all over Ciudad Juarez that said they were going to start going after people even if they lived on the other side (U.S.). So its gradually gotten more violent. I recently had a text message sent to me that originated somewhere across the border that showed a tub full of blood with four head floating in it, along with pics of the decapitated bodies. So its scary. You never know whats gonna happen because these people don't play around. They are following through on a lot of the threats they are making. However the Mexican Gov't. is saying they wont be intimidated.
They also have extra soldiers coming in Juarez I believe pretty soon. Some officials in Mexico have said that the Juarez Gov't has totally lost control to the cartels and they are sending in people to supposedly fix it. I don't think that's gonna happen, but I wish em the best of luck.
Like I said I don't think very many people are crossing anymore and the ones that do are pretty much shitting bricks the whole time. I had a friend in the Fire Department who went over to do some grocery shopping..got carjacked at gun point, in broad daylight. He was advised to report his truck missing immediately to the Mexican and US govt/police, because what has now become common place is that those same cars are showing up with dead bodies in them. So again...very scary.
I think at some point it will spill over the border to this side....there's already been a lock down at one of the local hospitals because they were treating someone from the Mexican police (i think?) that got shot up pretty bad. So its gradually making its way over here, but I don't think people are uneasy per se. I think people who have family living over there probably feel the strain and uneasiness more than those of us who don't.
Hope I answered you. :D Anyone can ask.....I have nothing interesting to ask anyone. :)
