I've been there about 5 years ago. What can I say, It's like time has stopped for 20 years but the same time they have crazy technology, like a sci-fi movie. You'd be surprised to see all the people using the same outfits, there is no individualism in there.

Dude theres a super fantastic awesome book (the audiobook is in the audiobook history (i think) thread here) called Nothing To Envy
http://www.amazon.com/Nothing-Envy-O.../dp/0385523904 Everyone should read it if north korea fascinates you. It is one of the best books I've read/listened to in a really long time. |
NK has always fascinated me too. The people are even more isolated than someplace like Cuba. Just think, to escape to China, of all places, is a dream.
The thing that is so striking about the pictures is the big halls, the beautiful subway station, the wide streets, the areas obviously set up for folks to gather in, that are absolutely bare. Not even that there are no people, but that there is no "humanity". They look like no human has ever touched them. They're like paintings by someone who is technically proficient, but without any passion or feeling. |
