Not really to be honest. If I got upset every time I had to deal with foreigners asking questions about Scotland in particular....um...I would be like really upset. Yeah.

I can't even begin to tell you how true that is. To mark my point, last week, a local council in the UK (somewhere just outside of London I believe) were heavily criticised for putting up an immigrant Afghan family in a mansion which cost us taxpayers 1.2 million sterling p/a! The fact that they were Afghan is largely irrelevant to be honest, but you know the media here, the red page tabloids, like to stir up the public. The issue was the excess of it all, when other UK families weren't getting an eigth of the allocation of this family, and were struggling to survive.

The REAL issue with this, is that today, a forces veteran of 2 Gulf Wars and numerous eastern campaigns, isn't getting ANYTHING out of our country, and sleeps in his car while he tries desperately to find a job and survive. The contrast between the immigrants, and the people who really deserve our tax money, like the damn heroes who fought for is incredible.

It's disgusting how we treat out war heroes in comparison to our immigrants and I'm ashamed to say my country has it's policies on this matter very very wrong.

Sorry for going off-topic, that picture is ironic and true, and it's something I feel quite strongly about!

it's almost comforting to know the US isn't the only country doing that. almost, except that it's still fucked up.

Sadly most country's treat its war heroes worse than immigrants. Search the web and you can find stories of immigrants walking into many countries and they now hoe to work the system to gain a house with all bills paid. Compare that to a soldier coming back mentally effected by what they have been through and having to fight for treatment, benefits and just adjusting to life as a civilian. Regardless of your stance on the war being wrong or right, this is just fucked up.

Indeed, a man or woman signs up to defend their country against enemies foreign or domestic, and when they come home heroes they find the same institution that asked them to take a bullet are now brushing them aside and not re-paying their honor. sucks
