WORD. Never buy a dog from a Pet Store. Talk about a walking money pit. A Boxer is a good choice, I've been thinking about getting one to go along with my Corgi for a while, they're fun! High Energy, but really smart and really loyal (boxers). Locke, if you end up having any questions in a few months when it comes to dog shopping and upkeep, hit me up. One of the few subjects that I have plenty of advice/know-how on.

Hmm less expensive is rescuing a dog from a shelter. No puppy mill support there. Keeps an animal from being put down. And the dog is generally pretty loyal since you kinda saved em an all. I know mine tries to stick to me like glue. I am not even the one who picked her and yet she's glued to me. It took 2 years before she stopped following me to the damn bathroom. And now, even if I am in there too long (generally trying to hide from kiddo, critters and hairy guy I am married to) she'll come looking for me. She actually was by my side some of the time while I was so horribly sick. Weird puking your guts up and being stared at by a dog.

I second, or third the motion for a rescue. I have two dogs, one rescue and one from a breeder. The rescue is stuck to my side as well.

The hardest thing about a rescue dog is walking in to the kennel and not taking all of the dogs home. Seeing them all in there makes me feel so sad.

I have a hard time not wanting to take every dog home from the Shelter and/or rescues, too. My lady has a similar issue, so I'm surprised that we only have the 1 guy. I'd imagine we'll end up with quite a few in the next couple of years when we're done with law school and actually have money, haha.

you should totally adopt a dog. not too expensivo and you would be doing something great. if you are lucky, you might even end up with a dog as cool as this little dude:

we adopted him after my other dog died in march.

go with a rescue dog. it'll make you feel good. even a breeder is in it for profit.

Is this in response to me? I am only the boss in our house because BC allows it. So she should really follow him around. In fact, I tried to get her to sleep with him last night since I slept on the couch cuz of my back. She went to her bed with her daddy...and at 2:30 in the morning woke Mommy up cuz she couldn't get her fat self up on the couch. Guess I had too many blankies and pillows. I'll be glad she can figure out she loves MiniBC more than either of us and decided to sleep with him.

BC and I have a queen bed. Nice, spacious for the two of us. Along with said rescued dog (BC really should tell why he was in a position to rescue her) we have a cat we rescued on the same day. Turned out I found out later that had I not said yes to him, he was gonna be put down soon because he kept getting a respiratory infection. We've had them almost 7 years now. They're buddies. Dog thinks she's a male cat! We also have a second cat that we've had a bit over a year now. He was gonna be put down too. But I fell in love with him. He's missing an eye. Found out about him the day I was denied disability. He was born on my MIL's b-day. So to me it was a had to thing. And who do you think he belongs to? BC..not me. But anyway, picture my decently spacious queen bed with a 20 lb miniature pinscher, a 15-20 lb tuxedo cat, a 10 lb one eyed tabby and a 6 and 1/2 yr old kid who is big for his age. Yeah...not much room left for my fat ass.

Pure-bred mutts from the spca are the way to go. Every dog I've ever had save the last two were pound puppies. Last June took my son to get a haircut, and walked into the pet shop next door. They had pen after pen full of Cockers. I felt so bad I bought 2. 6 to a 4x4 box. She wanted $800 each, took $400 for both. Long story short, we spent $4000 in the first 6 mo to keep them alive. NEVER AGAIN!!!
