TIL: New car batteries, even disconnected can drain over Winter.

If its dead-dead then its developed an open connection inside from the cold and must be replaced. If its 11V or so then it has a dead cell and must be replaced. But if its down around 9V or so, it may be able to take a charge back up to 13V and be OK for another year. A good battery cell produces 2.1 to 2.2V and with 6 cells you get 12+ volts.
