You don't, unless you want to be hung for treason. Which is what would have happened to every man that signed that document in 1776 had we lost the battle for Independence.

It's kinda funny. This poll is echoing most of the national polls in the closeness of this race.

Interesting fact...

At this time during the summer, during the past 2 elections, the Democratic presumed noms (Gore and Kerry) were polling much higher than W.

I just can't wait until the Debates. An unscripted Obama vs. a pissed off McCain??

I am gonna start my popcorn now!

I am not saying that it should, but it seems bad that our fore fathers had the foresight to include this into our DoI. Yet we would die if it were ever attempted.

But the D.O.I. was what basically told England, "Fuck you, we are tired of this shit, now go suck balls", and started the Revolution. They banded together to throw off the chains of oppression by the current ruling government, and that was treason. Same penalty then as it is now, and many died when it was attempted. The original signers of the D.O.I. were branded as traitors to the Crown, convicted of treason, and could expect to be killed if ever caught. And some were. No different then as it would be now. As it should be.

I can't wait either. I'm hoping McCain will untuck his shirt and say some things most politicians wouldn't once he gets good and pissed. I'm not sure Obama's 4 or so years in politics will have him quite ready for that.

*shit....I've only got 2 more posts before I have to come up with an awesome 1000th post...damn the pressure*

But the way the SC interpreted it the amendment (which I somewat agree with) is that the open display of the 10 commandments establishes a religion. Unfortunately, this is where we range in to the ridiculous. If I remember correctly, the SC created some sort of standard, so if one type of religious symbol is displayed, if another type is also displayed within a certain distance, everything is fine.
Listen, the Atheist who is suing the government left and right for In God We Trust on money, crosses on courthouses, etc is an absolute asshole. I don't have a problem with moments of silence (although I do have a problem if prayers are read over the intercom), money with God on it, saying God in the pledge, etc. It's tradition and even though many of the founders strongly believe in the separation of church and state, they were very religious.

I believe that the two should be separate, not because I am an Atheist, but because I am a Libertarian. The government (especially the federal govt) should stay out of moral issues at any costs. Homosexual marriage is a classic example. There is nothing in the constitution deciding one way or the other, which means the federal govt should have no say in the matter. But the religious right have pushed that agenda. R v W...again, no real constitutional application. So what we have now is a poorly decided law cobbled together because this shouldn't be in the federal domain in the first place.

I can...wait. The way the debates are set up now, you simply don't learn any insights from the candidates. Bumper stickers arguments, looking for the news soundbites and the public's poor attention span makes for shitty debates. Instead of giving the candidate 2 whole minutes to explain how he is going to reform social security, give them 20 minutes and ensure there's a moderator that rules with an iron fist to keep them on task and not straying one bit.
THAT I would PAY to see. Mainly, I have a sad feeling, you would get 1 minute of relevant information and 19 minutes or boilerplate BS because politics these days are NOT won on ideas.

Anyone changed opinions now that Obama has picked his VP (Biden)?

No but I am shocked at his pick. I was hoping for Evan Bayh but I guess he thinks he knows the course he wants to head in.
