TAZEWELL – A $1 million bond has been set for a Richlands physician charged with rape.
District Judge Jack S. Hurley Jr. set the bond for 65-year-old Roy Gomez Sept. 16. Hurley established the bond after viewing DNA evidence submitted by the Commonwealth.
In addition to the secured bond, the court ruled that Gomez would surrender his passport, have no contact with the victim or witnesses, go on home electronic monitoring and only travel to and from work and to meet with his attorneys.
Hurley had recessed a Sept. 12 bond request by Gomez to await the presentation of DNA evidence by the commonwealth. Gomez was charged Sept. 10 and had been lodged in the Southwest Regional Jail since then.
State, local and federal agents also executed search warrants at his home and office that same day. Police have not elaborated on what that is about but do say it is a separate investigation.
In an unrelated matter, Wanda Frazier, a nurse in Gomez’s office was indicted during the Sept. 9 term of grand jury on 16 counts of prescription fraud. Frazier was arraigned in circuit court Sept. 16.
Martha Ketron, a Lebanon attorney was appointed to represent Frazier. She is free on $10,000 unsecured bond pending an Oct. 21 trial.
